Dananjaya Hettiarachchi won the 2014 Toastmasters International Speech Contest. The document lists several things the author liked about Hettiarachchi's winning speech, including that he spoke passionately about his life, kept the audience engaged with an unpredictable narrative, used humor to convey his story, and had controlled yet open gestures. The speech also effectively conveyed its message in a short time and broke a single journey into smaller, rewarding parts for listeners through callbacks to previous jokes. The only criticism was that one detail about becoming a speaker and dreamer to get a teaching job was deemed irrelevant.

Contest)
I will tell you in points what I liked about his speech :
1- He talks very passionatly about his life.
2- He keeps you on your toes , like he keeps you guessing about what’s going to happen. 3- He uses his humour to convey his story. 4-his gestures are open but controlled, so he doesn't look like he is moving his hands randomly. 5- He conveyed the message in such a short time and beautifully. 6-There's a technique comedians use called a "callback," in which a joke refer to a previous joke in the set for added laughter. I think It serves as a sort of reward for being an active listener . 7- In this speech there was a single journey, but it was broken into smaller parts 8- I think the most important thing vocal variety . He did it so good when he was speaking about his mother tears , changing voice to soft and gentle , changing pitch I personally liked it. 9- The ending where he pick up the rose from the trash can to convey the message that people closer to him helped him back together.
What I did’nt like :
1- He said that he became speaker , dreamer that’s how he got a teacher job but I don’t think its relevant.
