DBQ History Reflection 3

My objective for today was to finish the last three paragraphs on the Packing House, look
at the two videos, read the page from the book People of the Pack and view some photos. The
students achieved this and we went back into the Webquest to find additional information to use
in our tri-fold and paper.

Before starting where we left off, I reviewed what we covered last week then jumped into
finishing up the Webquest. We were able to answer the last two clues and each student was able
to put the “answer” into their own words. Connor especially enjoyed watching the videos on the
Dubuque Packing Company. After we finished finding the clues, I explained the importance of
finding additional information to make our project and their paper more interesting. Each student
found “fun facts” that they wrote down in their detective notebooks. I thought today went really
well with both Nathan and Bella. Both were very engaged and more talkative about their new
knowledge.

On the other hand, I had to be stricter with Connor. I understand he needs to have
something in his hands to fidget but I would sit by him to make sure that he was following along
and paying attention. It was a little difficult at times because I also wanted to be giving my
attention to Bella and Nathan. However, they did not need the assistance Connor did. Again,
Connor did say that he wishes he was in a different group covering a different topic. Instead of
being upset, I said “Well you’re in this group, with me, studying the Millwork District and
Packing House.” In the end, Connor was able to find additional information with the guidance of
my help.

Overall, I think today was another successful day. I am excited to work with the students
next week in the Center for Dubuque History. I gave them a little insight on what we would be
doing/looking at.
