Hunger and Politics

Hunger is defined as the malnutrition caused by two main factors. Protein-Energy malnutrition is
caused by lack of sufficient proteins to support growth of cells, muscles and support the required
body growth. Lack of energy as a result of malnutrition of carbohydrates starves the body of
essential energy supply forcing the body to convert proteins to provide energy thus poisoning the
body. And, the minor type of hunger is lack of vitamins and minerals and is known as
micronutrient (World Hunger Organization, 2011). According to the New York Times, the
United Nations issued a warning that drought was devastating Somalia that in turn posed a great
famine that would claim at least 750,000 lives.

The first factor promoting hunger in Somalia is lack of a stable government to curb militant
insurgence in the nation. Insecurity is causing many farmers to buy inputs at a higher price while
the violent militants who destroy or steal crops. The second factor hindering alleviation of
hunger in Somalia is restrictions on communication plans as a result of insecurity such that aid
agencies efforts remain landlocked by the militant blockade.

Agricultural production in Somalia is about a quarter of the expected crop and animal yield.
Therefore, food prices remain consistently high since most of the food is imported. Furthermore,
high prices of food have forced populations to move to other countries like Kenya and Ethiopia
as refugees; thus propagating the hunger problem across the border. The Shabab Islamic
extremist groups rule most part of the southern Somali that are hard hit by the famine crisis.
Though food penetrates to the militant controlled zones, citizens complain of being harassed by
gunmen who take the food away to resell at extra profit.

Conclusively, Somalia needs a table government that can provide an agricultural agenda and
economic recovery programs to enable the nation to alleviate hunger. Government will have to
fund farmers increase the yield.

Laws and Regulations

Privacy can be exemplified by a situation whereby an individual's confidential details that should
only be disclosed in a private are not disclosed to a third party. This could be because the
disclosure could cause embarrassment or bring emotional distress to people of reasonable
sensitivities. The right of privacy is only provided to people who reside in places or use services
that are considered to be private. They may include hotel rooms, home or telephone booth.
Protection is not given for information that is on the public domain, or information is disclosed
voluntarily to the public. Privacy protection is offered to people once they are sure that the
information they are offering is private, and does not qualify to be heard by the public.

Privacy laws are classified into four categories. The main categories include unreasonably
intruding upon the seclusion of other people, for instance, invading in other people’s home
through physical means, this includes looking into other people’s window with either cameras
and binoculars, or unwanted entries into private premises, searching people’s purses or wallets,
persistence and repeated telephone calls, and obtaining various financial data. Another category
is whereby there is an appropriation of people’s name or likeness. Successful usage of privacy
rights mostly includes the defendant’s application of one’s name on a product, or service
(Hudson, 2010).

The laws on privacy have the sole aim of protecting an individual against hurting personal
feelings. On the other hand, the core function of publicity laws is protection against unpermitted
commercial exploitation of people’s faces and names. The application of both the privacy and
publicity laws is done differently in different situations. For instance, in practical issues, the
celebrities normally sue under publicity rights, whereas, the public sue under privacy rights.
Another category of privacy rights is protecting against publication of private issues, for
instance, sexual relationships, family quarrels, data on income tax, people’s photographs in their
homes, and medical treatment. The final category includes false publications on people, which is
the same as defamation.

The federal laws are not subject to both the privacy and publicity rights. These laws are subjects
to the state laws. The laws governing these rights vary from one state to another with some
countries employing strict rules on these rights, while other states are not. In case of publicity,
where one’s identity has falsely been used, one could be pursued under the federal Lanham Act.
The Bill of Rights ensures that the state never deprives the United States citizens some basic
rights. The system of justice is not so much into laws against privacy and publicity. However, the
future is open for privacy protection rights. For instance, some judges are not inclined into
protecting privacy to exceed the cases that are causing claims on the grounds of specified
assurances in the Bill of Rights (Breckenridge, 1970).

Some examples of this law are a barcode meant to scan products on the cashier’s register in a
store, and credit card number inputting meant to pay for the purchases. Lack of privacy could be
extremely serious in some instances. A hypothetical example on the consequences involved once
the privacy laws are ignored can be the case where an unmarried schoolteacher in the
conservative society purchases contraceptive. The society expects the teacher to be an exemplary
role model, who should be in the front line discouraging premarital sex, thus, the teacher could
end up losing her job. The invasion of privacy could end up being disastrous in some instances
(Standler, 1997).

In conclusion, the laws against privacy and publicity are particularly beneficial in one's daily life.
The state should come up with mechanism which makes sure that those who violate these laws
are dealt with appropriately. Once these laws are put into place, people’s privacy is enhanced.

The Politics

Why a human being is more of a political animal than is any bee or any gregarious animal?

Human being naturally does nothing pointlessly and is the only animal with a rational discourse.
The nature surrounding human beings and animals is far advanced for them to expect pleasure
and pain and to express them from one another. A voice expresses such pains and pleasure, and
so animals and human beings who are surrounded by this kind of nature have it. Rational
discourse that only exists in human beings applies to distinguish what is between what is harmful
and expedient and consequently what is unjust and just. This therefore contrasts human beings
from other animals that they are the only ones who can distinguish between evil and good, and
therefore unjust and just.

For nature, we say, does nothing pointlessly, and a human being is the only animal with rational
discourse

This forms the implication that human beings, and unlike other animals rarely act with no
apparent reason or goal. For a human being to act, he must be satisfied that the direction he takes
is appropriate and acceptable to any normal thinker. For rationality purposes there must not exist
external forces that compel a human being to make particular decisions in a particular manner.

A voice communicates pain and pleasure that result from the advanced nature of human beings
as well as other animals. Therefore human beings and other animals have that voice to express
such pains and pleasure to one another. So the pains and pleasure will be signified by both
human beings and other animals. Rational discourse that is only evident in human beings makes
it clear whether such pleasures and pains are harmful or expedient.
The rational discourse attribute of human beings make them distinct from other animals as it is
the basis of determining what good or evil. It therefore translates that other animals that do not
possess this attribute have no value for good or evil unlike human beings. Human beings are
again able to rule between just and unjust because of rational discourse.

Every community comes into existence for the reasons of some good. This is so because such
communities are constituted of people who do everything for reasons of what seems good. All
these communities therefore target some good with the one that targets a good that reigns all
other goods gaining all control over others and even includes those others. This community is the
one called a city.

A Good City

According to Aristotle, a good city is formed from various villages. It thus acquires full degree of
every aspect of self-sufficiency and rises to be, for the reason of living but continues in existence
for purposes of living better. He further notes that a city is different from politics where alliances
are evident. He says that, similar people do not constitute a city but they make an alliance since
the alliance aims at assistance. A good city according to him is usually not unified as alleged. He
says that such unity would only destroy a city rather than develop it. Politically he says that an
excellent for a ruler to be excellent he must be have intelligence and be good. He further
indicates that citizens do not necessarily have to be intelligent but they should know and take
part in ruling and being ruled. Aristotle describes some form of rulings exercisable.

Master’s rule over slaves which is basically concerned with necessities and the leader here
require the knowledge of how to use these necessities and not the knowledge of how to produce
such necessities.
