TECHNICAL DRAFTING
Grade 10

Module 5: Drafting Electrical and Electronic Layout and Details Using

CAD

Quarter III 8 hrs.

Grade Level Standard:

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the four (4)

components of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE). One of the
mini- courses offered in Technical Drafting. This module covers Process and Delivery
(PD) which consists of the core competencies that a Grade 10 leaners ought to
possess competency in drafting electrical plans and layout using Computer –Aided
Design (CAD).

Content Standard

The learner demonstrates understanding of concepts and underlying

principles in drafting electrical and electronic layout and details using Computer-
Aided Design (CAD).

Performance Standard

The learner independently drafts electrical and electronic layout and details
following the job requirements using Computer-Aided Design (CAD).

Learning Competencies

 draft electrical plans and layout; and

 draft auxiliary system using CAD

I. Introduction

The primary purpose of Technical Drafting (TD) is to provide the learners with
the knowledge and skills that will help them become a successful Draftsman or a
Drafting Technician.
Upon completion of this module, learners are expected to: (1) draft lighting
and power layout according to architectural drafting standards; (2) place symbols,
riser diagram and circuits in accordance with the Philippine Electrical Code; (3) draft
legends, and general notes according to local power service provider using
computer-aided design (CAD).

Orient learners on the following:

28
 Entrepreneurship-based technology and livelihood education
curriculum
 Parts of the module
 How to use the module

II. Objectives

Guided by the teacher and this module, the learner is expected to know the
skills and underlying principles in the process and delivery of Technical Drafting such
as:
1. operational definitions/terminologies on electrical and electronic layout and
details;
2. electrical drawing standards using computer-aided design (CAD).
III. Pre/Post Assessment

 Guide learners in assessing their knowledge and skills in Drafting

Technology using:
 Paper and pencil test
 Performance test
 Computer for hands-on
 Check their answers using the answer key
IV. Learning Goals and Targets

Based on the objectives of the lesson and results of the pre-assessment,

let the learners define their personal goals and targets to be achieved at the end of
this module. Ask the learners to write their goals/targets in their notebooks on your
answer sheets.
 Discuss the use and relevance of setting goals and targets for the mini-
course.
 Assist/Guide learners in accomplishing their goals and targets using the
format provided in the module.

V. Process and delivery

Lesson 1: Drafting Electrical Plans and Layout

A. Know

 Guide learners in answering the skills assessment on page 147 to assess

prior knowledge on drafting electrical plans and layout using CAD.
 Discuss to the learners the appropriate way to prepare electrical plan using
CAD.
 Guide the learners create electrical/electronic symbol libraries.
 Demonstrate to class the steps in creating an AutoCAD electrical drawing
template
 Explain to the learners the proper work habits/values in the workplace.

29
B. Process

 Instruct learners to perform the suggested activity 1 on page 151.

 Guide the learners in selecting appropriate tools/commands for the activity.
 Provide additional sample activities to deepen their understanding on this
topic.
 Use the scoring rubrics to rate learners’ performance.
 Guide learners on the proper work habits/values in the workplace.

C. Reflect and Understand

 Instruct learners to perform the suggested activity 2 on pages 152 and 153,
respectively.
 Guide the learners in following the features and sequence of creating
electrical plan using CAD.
 Use the scoring rubrics to assess the learners’ performance.
 You may use other enrichment activity to make the lesson more engaging.
 Guide learners on the proper work habits/values in the workplace.
 Guide learners on the best practices that must be observed in the work station
or workplace.

D. Transfer

 To complete the lesson and apply the learning outcome for Lesson 1, let
learners perform suggested activity 3 on page 154.
 Use an assortment of floor plans for group work. Challenge learners on how
they would simulate creativity on the manner they would apply electrical layout
and fixtures that follow job requirement using CAD.
 Have learners prepare a complete “mini project proposal” as a project.
Remind them to consider the following: budgetary requirement, bill of
materials and time schedule, for them to able to accomplish the task.
 Informed the learners of the areas/criteria where they will be rated at.
 Remember to re-assess learners based on their goals and target set earlier.

Lesson 2: Drafting Auxiliary Systems and Layout

A. Know

 Explain to the learners the steps in drawing the auxiliary system plan.
 Guide the learners create electrical/electronics light fixtures libraries.
 Introduce a game to motivate learners. Employ a “Matching Type and/or Drag
30
and Drop Activity” (electronic or paper cut-outs) to carry out the association
electronic symbols with their meaning.
 Conduct a lecturette/mini presentation to address learners’ inquiry and/or clear
doubts and difficulties in understanding concepts about the lesson.
 Explain to the learners the proper work habits/values in the workplace.

B. Process

 Let learners analyse and identify symbols from the given floor plan by
performing the suggested activity 1 on page 156.
 Task learners (individual/group) in coming up with a simple installation guide
for lighting and convenient outlet circuit to be presented in the class.
 Explain to the learners the proper work habits/values in the workplace.

C. Reflect and Understand

 Instruct the learners to perform the suggested activities 2 and 3 on page 156.
 Provide additional sample activities to deepen their understanding on this
topic.
 Provide related video clips to enrich better understanding for the learners.
 Use the scoring rubrics to assess the learners’ performance.

D. Transfer

 Instruct learners to perform summative assessment in Lesson 2 on suggested

activities 2A in pages 157 and 2B, respectively.
 Provide additional related activities to assess the acquired knowledge and
skills of the learners on this topic.
 Use the given assessment tool provided at the end of each module to
evaluate learners’ performance.

V. SUMMARY

In this learning episode on basic technical drafting class, learners develop

skills in drafting and designing electrical and electronic layout using computer-aided
design (CAD). Learners are also expected to produce outputs which complied with
standard building code and fire hazards code to ensure safety.

Depending on the implementation, learners shall have gained experience with

drafting systems with varied electrical and electronic technologies based on the job
requirements. Models used in this lesson should not become a limiting factor in
addressing the diverse learning needs in field. These should be the bases of
creating a more appropriate working drawings that highlight the need to create a
more sophisticated design using CAD and on the development of a draft plan.

VII. GLOSSARY

The purpose of the glossary is to guide teachers and learners with the
technical terms and their operational meanings. This is a very useful component of
the module that provides learners an access to a working vocabulary or meanings of
the terms and phrases that relate with topics and/or concepts being discussed. The
glossary also serves as an additional reference material that will guide learners in
practicing the skills and correcting them as well, when misconception arises.
