1.6.1 Theoretical Review

The first central bank was the bank of England which was established in 1664. After the
formulation of banking law in 1883 by United Kingdom the speed of bank establishment
take an instant take off.

In my context of Nepal the history of banking is not so very long in spite that these was
numerous banking activities existed from the ancient time only. It is heard that the
banking activity started only after the give and take of loan. In correct sense the meaning
of bank came in existence only after the establishment of Nepal Bank limited. This bank
is working as a commercial bank from its establishment period when it is realized that the
banking sector is being helpful in making monetary policy then only Nepal Rastra Bank
was established in Nepal in 2013 B.S. But now NRB is acting as a Governments bank as
well as helping in development of financial sector.

In same way Nepal Commercial Bank was established in 2022 B.S. Likewise, for the
development of agriculture sector, Agriculture Development Bank was established in
2024 B.S. NIC ASIA Bank was initially known with the name of NIC Bank was founded
as NIC Bank on 21 July 1998. It was renamed NIC ASIA Bank on June 2013 after it
merged with Bank of Asia Nepal.
5

NRB (2009) has conducted a research topic on financial sector development and
economic growth of Nepal."The main objective of this research was to estimate the
impact of the growth of domestic financial service on Nepali economic growth. Similarly
other financial institution, annual report, article of financial planner and financial expert
has been published various books in the market to study scenario of financial market and
its position.

Saving/deposit pattern is divided into three categories. Fixed deposit, current deposit, and
saving deposit. Fixed deposit have fixed maturity period and bank restrict the
depositor/Saver to withdraw the cash prior to their maturity. Current/demand deposit are
those deposits which are withdrawn on demand. Checking accounts, commonly known as
current account in Nepal. Saving deposit have some features of checking accounts and
some of time deposit account. Banks are subject to make the payment on demand on
these accounts. But customers have to maintain minimum balance and comply with the
restriction on imposed on the amounts of withdrawals. Moreover, Saving/deposit paten is
concerned with collections of fund from different deposit/saving accounts to create loan
and mobilize fund in productivity sector.

Saving pattern has significant role to establish relation with the people and mobilization
of fund NIC ASIA bank offer 5 types of deposit among them saving deposit current
deposit and fixed deposit are most important to collect fund from number of account on
deposits which are withdrawn on demand. Saving deposit have some features of checking
account and some of time deposit account. Banks are subject to make the payment on
demand on this account. But customer have to maintain minimum balance and comely
with the restriction imposed on the amount of withdraw. Fixed deposit have fixed
maturity period and bank restrict the depositors to withdraw the cash prior to their
maturity. Depositors may borrow from banks by lodging the certificate of deposits as
collateral. But depositors may withdraw the money deposited in time deposit accounts
prior to its maturity but customer has to p ay bank the penalty.

Therefore number of account on deposit is also significant role to collect deposit from
various accounts to create loan and provide service to the customer saving pattern of NIC
Asia Bank limited in New Baneshwor Branch can increase number account and deposit
6

from various account through quality and reliable service. In the previous studies only the
