A: Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy efficiency, is the goal to reduce
the amount of energy required to provide products and services. For example, insulating a
home allows a building to use less heating and cooling energy to achieve and maintain a
comfortable temperature.
2. What is EnerGuide?
A: EnerGuide is the official Government of Canada mark associated with the labelling and
rating of the energy consumption or energy efficiency of specific products. To find the
percent of efficiency you do power out divided by power in.
Know which upgrades will reduce your energy use the most: new windows, doors,
heating, ventilation, insulation, draftproofing, or hot water heating.

Learn your home's current and potential EnerGuide rating.
5. Describe 3 energy-efficiency products you can buy for your home. What makes
them energy efficient?
The handy devices allow you to connect multiple appliances to a single electrical outlet.
Though with traditional power strips, devices plugged in often consume electricity even
when you aren’t using them.
Charging Stations
The solutions are something called “smart” charging stations. These stations allow set
charging schedules that cut power when the connected device is fully charged. Or, you
can purchase a station with an on/off switch. Flipping a switch is considerably easier than
remembering to unplug your phone after charging.
Smart Thermostats
In recent years, smart thermostats like the NEST have really taken off in popularity. Their
ability to save owners both power and cash has made them appealing to those looking for
an easy way to save energy. The thermostats work by adjusting the temperature in your
house based on whether or not you’re home, and which rooms are in use..
6. Describe 2 grants offered by the Manitoba government to make your home more
energy efficiency.
A: New Homes Program and Home Insulation Program. The first one is a program
where the government offer financial incentives and energy design assistance for the
construction of new energy efficient homes. To be eligible, the home must be at least 20%
more energy efficient than a conventional new home. The second one is a program where
the government offer rebates to help you insulate your attic, walls, and foundation
because if your home was built before 1999 it may not have enough insulation.
