Letter of Support For Dr. Johnson
Letter of Support For Dr. Johnson
Teachers and staff throughout the county are thrilled to learn that the board will consider
an extension of Dr. Bryan Johnson’s contract as Superintendent of Hamilton County
Schools at the upcoming February 20th meeting. As the individuals who are in our
buildings and classrooms on a daily basis, and thus have a front row seat to the impact
his leadership has for our students, we would like to express our wholehearted support
for Dr. Johnson’s leadership and an early renewal of his contract.
Chairman Joe Wingate is quoted in the Times Free Press as stating that not only will Dr.
Johnson be a “sought after candidate” but that other districts will be actively seeking a
leader like him at a time when Dr. Johnson’s contract will be within only a few months of
expiring. We agree with the chairman that waiting until next Fall to consider Dr.
Johnson’s contract is an unwise position to find ourselves in.
We also understand that those who aren’t fortunate enough to be present daily in our
schools may not fully appreciate the difference we’ve witnessed in our district over the
past three years. Under Dr. Johnson’s leadership, our schools have transformed into
the fastest improving school system in the State of Tennessee. This accomplishment
alone is noteworthy, but for us it’s Dr. Johnson’s work ethic, approachability, willingness
to listen and respond to criticism, student-centered approach, and deliberate
empowerment of educators to be both experts in our classrooms and voices for our
students that we hold most dear.
Ladies and gentlemen of the board, if you needed additional reasons to vote in favor of
continuing Dr. Johnson’s contract, we hope this letter has provided them.
We would also like to express our thanks to the board for selecting Dr. Johnson as our
superintendent in 2017, and pray the same wisdom will be shown again in 2020.
Sincerely,
Hamilton County United
