Vancouver
a. Food
i. Miku
1. Fine Japanese dining – kinda expensive but good for a date night
or nice lunch. Last time I went they had a tasting platter with 5
small dishes that was pretty good, though their specialty is aburi
sushi I think. It’s right by the waterfront so it’s a really nice view.
ii. Cin Cin
1. Fine Italian dining – also kinda expensive but good for a date
night.
iii. Japadog
1. Street food – Just a hot dog with a bunch of Japanese toppings.
They have carts all over Vancouver and I think they have a store
now too. Good for a snack while you’re walking around the city or
a light lunch.
iv. Ramen Santouka
1. Ramen – Good ramen place that usually has a long line. It’s
technically the same restaurant as the one by Harvard so if you’ve
been there you might wanna try something different. It’s right
beside a snowy village though if you want some shaved ice dessert.
v. Marutama Ramen
1. Ramen – another ramen place that specializes in ramen made with
chicken broth. It’s got more collagen which is supposed to be good
for your skin or something.
vi. El Furniture Warehouse
1. Cheap eats/Bar – Not the best quality but really cheap food ($6
dinner). It’s mostly a bar.
vii. Aura – Nightclub
viii. The Flying Pig – Breakfast/Brunch
ix. Joey Burrard – Fusion
b. Sights
i. Science World
1. It’s the big dome building in Vancouver. Kind of a kids thing but
its still pretty cool.
ii. Stanley Park
1. Bigass park that Vancouver’s kinda known for. Really good for a
walk or bike on a nice day.
iii. Boat tours
iv. Gastown
1. Older, historic part of Vancouver with a bunch of small trendy
shops and restaurants
v. Vancouver Aquarium
1. Bigger and better than the New England aquarium (which isn’t
saying too much)
vi. Vancouver Art Gallery
1. Pretty big gallery if you like art.
2. North Vancouver
a. Food
i. The Red Chilli – Chinese
ii. The Portly Chef
1. My high school English teacher’s wife works here and they have
the best cheesecake.
b. Sights
i. Capilano Suspension Bridge
1. Big suspension bridge and park in North Van. I think it’s a pretty
good tourist attraction.
3. Richmond
a. Food
i. Parklane Restaurant – Dim Sum
ii. Neptune Seafood Restaurant – Late Night/Dim Sum
1. My parents and I always eat here when I got a late flight cause they
close at like 3 AM.
iii. Pearl Castle – Taiwanese
iv. Yuu Japanese Tapas – Japanese
v. Gyu-kaku - Japanese
vi. Everything
1. The city of Richmond is like 90% Asian so there’s tons of good
Asian food everywhere
4. Whistler
a. If you got time Whistler’s always a good visit. A lot of the Vancouver winter
Olympics was here and it’s one of the biggest ski resorts in North America. You
can go spring skiing if you want or you could just take a gondola up and sightsee.
There’s also a bunch of lakes to walk around and Whistler village is a good stroll
at night too. My fam and I have seasons passes and can get you a small discount
on some stuff I think.
b. Food
i. Bar Osu – Spanish
1. Really expensive but they have good ham supposedly
ii. Araxi – Fusion
1. Expensive fine dining
iii. Cows – Ice Cream
1. Really fucking good ice cream
iv. Southside Diner – Breakfast
c. Sights
i. Peak 2 Peak Gondola
1. They have some world record for longest unsupported gondola or
something but it’s a really cool gondola that goes between Whistler
and Blackcomb mountain. Two of the gondolas have glass bottoms
so it’s a cool view.
ii. Whistler/Blackcomb Mountain
iii. Nita Lake
iv. Stawamus Chief
1. If you like hiking and outdoors you can stop by Squamish (about
30 min from whistler) for outdoor activities stuff. Stawamus chief
gets you real high up for a great view but it might be cold in
March.
v. Tubing
5. South Surrey/White Rock
a. There’s really not much to do here lol it’s just where I live so I know some good
restaurants in the area. It’s real close to the US border so you can go shopping at
outlets or visit Seattle if you drive a bit further.
b. Food
i. Don Asian Cuisine – Chinese
1. Oily, fatty, spicy food that’ll make you shit but tastes like heaven
ii. Sapporo Kitchen – Japanese
iii. Kappa Sushi – Japanese
iv. Maguroguy Asian Cuisine - Japanese
c. Sights
i. White Rock Beach
1. Always a pretty good stroll by the beach and there’s tons of
restaurants and bars on the side. Might not be as nice now cause
the pier got destroyed in a storm.
