Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents in detail the methodology of the study. It includes the research

design, sampling technique, data gathering procedure, statistical treatment, and tabular

representation of data analysis.

Research Design

The researchers used the mixed method in gathering the data. Using a combination of

qualitative and quantitative method can improve an evaluation by ensuring that the

limitations of one type of data are balanced by the strengths of another. This will ensure that

understanding is improved by integrating different ways of knowing. The said methods

would be appropriate in conducting the study of Performing Arts by means of Lowering

Public Speaking Anxiety for ALS Learners ages 16 to 25 from Brgy. Poblacion, Urdaneta

City.

Locale of the Study

The location to conduct the implementation of the study was at Brgy. Poblacion,

rearward Immaculate Church of Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.

Sampling/ Respondents

The researchers chose fifteen ALS students, male and female, aged 16 to 25, and the

ALS mobile teachers as respondents in this study. In choosing their respondents, they
followed the “Purposive Sampling.” The purposive sampling is known us judgmental,

selective or subjective sampling technique that will fall on the following criteria:

1. Young adult students who have their own families.

2. Teenager students.

3. Mobile teachers.

The Alternative Learning System considers students who have physical disabilities,

own families, who are in jail, senior citizens, adults, and teenagers. But for this study, the

researchers discovered that majority of the students are young adults which some of them

have their own families, and teenager students. The researchers also found that the said

respondents will be linked to the study’s standard ages which are 16 to 25 years old and they

will be the main respondents for implementation. The mobile teachers are also included in the

criteria to consider as supporting witnesses for the outcome of the Performing Arts Program

to be based on the study’s Statement of the Problem (see on Chapter 1).

Statistical Treatment

The gathered data from the respondents were statistically analyzed with the data

requirements of the study. For the data to be interpreted effectively, researchers employed

such statistical treatment by getting the percentages, and may be presented in charts or

graphs.

Data Gathering Procedure

Initial Phase

a. A text message was sent to the Education Program Specialist of ALS, Sir Jensen

E. Aduca, for his permission and approval in letting the researchers to have an
interview and discussion with him in regards of the study and the researcher’s

purpose.

b. Afterwards, the approval and the discussed proposal of the study, the researchers

made a letter of acknowledgment as formality for letting the Performing Arts

Program being legalized to conduct.

c. After choosing a particular location to conduct the study, the researchers visited

Brgy. Poblacion of Urdaneta City and meet the ALS learners, who will be the

respondents.

Testing Phase

a. The researchers implemented for the Performing Arts Program like post-tests,

discussions, activities, and assessments regarding to the 3 main topics: Acting,

Dancing, and Singing coming from their provided module: “Public Speaking

Anxiety by means of Lowering Public Speaking Anxiety”. It will take up to 6

sessions.

b. The respondents (ALS learners) answered surveys and questionnaires as an

outcome for the study’s Statement of the Problem.

c. The other respondents (Mobile teachers) were interviewed by the researchers.

Post Phase

a. The collected data from the surveys and questionnaires were tallied, graphed,

analyzed, and interpreted by the researchers.

Final Phase

a. Data are provided a drawing conclusion and recommendation. The data would

then be analyzed.
The following table shows the summary of the data gathering procedure:

Time Table/ Matching Table

Time table represents the specific starting and target dates of the Performing Arts

Program conducted by the researchers. It is also included the activities the remarks of the said

program. Matching table describes all the research questions which are the study’s Statement

of the Problem. It has 3 columns that stated what will be the methods that the researchers will

going to use in gathering answers coming from the respondents which are the ALS Learners

and Mobile Teachers.

Program name: Performing Arts Program

Objectives:

1. To see the benefits of performing arts in public peaking.

2. To help the ALS learners lower their public speaking anxiety. phase
