1.0 Title of Paper Work
Enhancing Teachers Competency in the Teaching of Writing Skills Workshop
Phase 1-2018

2.0 Background
For 2017, English UPSR paper for SJK Schools especially for 024 paper that is
writing paper has not shown a good result compared to the other paper which is the
comprehension paper. The overall result for UPSR last year for 024 papers is 68.89%
compared to 023 paper which has 80.86%. Refer to Appendix A
SJK Schools need to push up their scores and this need comes from Section A:
information transfer which carries 10 marks and Section C, Guided Writing which
carries 25 marks
For the AR1 2018 result in SJK Schools, it also shows an alarming rate in the
number of passes for that paper which is only 55.32%. Refer to Appendix B

3.0 Date and Time of Workshop

3.1 Date: 10 – 11 May 2018 (Thursday & Friday)
3.2 Time: 8.00 am till 5.00 pm

5.0 Objectives:
5.1 To train English teachers in producing exercises for their teaching and learning
especially on Information Transfer and guided writing (024 paper – Section A
and C) especially focusing on weak pupils

5.2 English teachers will be introduce on the various techniques and strategies
on teaching Information transfer and Guided writing

5.2 To compile exercises that can be use during their intervention class focusing
weak pupils for this paper

6.0 Target Group

6.1 8 English teachers from 4 SJK Focus Schools
6.2 1 English teacher from SJK Sg Lubak by invitation
