2019 NOVEL CORONA VIRUS

(2019 NCOV)
BY: AIKA ELEUTERIO

The 2019 novel corona virus is a betacoronavirus like MERS and SARS. It is a virus identified as the cause of an
outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China. Early on, many of the patients in the outbreak in Wuhan,
China reportedly had some link to a large seafood and animal market, suggesting animal to person spread. However, a
growing number of patients are reportedly do not have any contacts to animal markets indicating person to person
spread is occurring .At this time, it’s unclear how easily or sustainably this virus is spreading between individuals.
When person to person spread occur with MERS and SARS, it is thought to have happened mainly via respiratory
droplets produced when an infected person coughs and sneezes, similar to how influenza and other respiratory
pathogens spread. The spread SARS and MERS between people has generally occurred between close contacts.

This virus is a very serious public health threat, based on current information. There is much, or to learn
about the transmissibility, severity, and other aspects. In able to prevent the spread of the respiratory viruses you must
wash your hands often with soap and water for at least twenty seconds. Use an alcohol based hand sanitizer that
contains at least sixty percent alcohol if soap and water are not available. Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and
mouth with unwashed hands, avoid close contact with people who are sick, then stay home when you feel
uncomfortable, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue properly. Disinfect
frequently the objects and surfaces before and after touching it. As of now there are some countries that already discover
a vaccine for the 2019 NOVEL CORONA VIRUS.
IN WUHAN, China where the mutant virus called the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was first spotted, around
200 have already been infected and four lives have been claimed. The first identified cases were traced from a seafood
wholesale market in Wuhan, and thus doctors initially found no proof of human-to-human transmission until recently.

Undetected, infected individuals carried the virus to Beijing, Shanghai and southern Guangdong. Worse, carriers have
reached South Korea, Japan and Thailand.
Experts from the Chinese health agencies believe a larger outbreak will manifest soon, although with all precaution
mechanisms in place, the momentum might slow down.

But close to home, we have our first probable case, a five-year-old, who arrived at the Mactan-Cebu International
Airport on Jan. 12, 2020 from Wuhan, China. The boy had fever and throat infection, and was promptly brought to an
undisclosed hospital. Routine laboratory tests of his blood samples revealed traces of the virus, and thus the Department
of Health (DOH) sent a sample specimen to Australia to identify the specific coronavirus strain, on whether it is the
2019-nCoV or not. As of the moment, the boy is in stable condition and is relieved of fever.
Meanwhile, the DOH Central Visayas is now implementing a “double heightened alert status,” and has deployed 15 to
20 quarantine personnel to help in the monitoring. Thermal scanners have been set up in airports and seaports.

DOH 7 Director Jaime Bernadas said they have added “implementation arrangements” with local government units,
fielding epidemiologists in towns and cities. Travelers with symptoms of fever and cough are encouraged to wear masks.
The coronavirus has an extensive family of viruses causing illnesses ranging from the common cold to more serious
infections.
The more common signs include respiratory infections, fever, cough, shortness of breath, even difficulty in breathing.
Hit hard, an individual may suffer pneumonia, kidney failure or a breakdown in the immune system that could even lead
to death.
The DOH urges the public to practice frequent hand washing, avoid unprotected contact with farm or wild animals, stay
away from others when coughing or sneezing, avoid close contact with people showing flu-like symptoms. It is also
encouraged to ensure that food is cooked well.
My Teacher, My Hero
BY:ELNIZA KADUSALE

“Some heroes don’t wear capes, some comes with a noble uniform that we have all known to be as, Teachers.”
Every 5th of October, the world celebrates teacher’s day in honor to the ones who stand as second parents to the
students. Just like what Mabato PCHS students did last October 4, 2019 held at the school facade. They celebrated since
this is the special day for all the Teachers and this only happens once a year. Mabato students thought that it’s best to
make a short program for their heroes. So, all students cooperate and participate to the short program led by the SSG
President, Jinly Libradilla, together with his co-officers along with the Classroom Officers. During that time, students are
preparing activities that are enjoyable, fun and amusing for the teachers. One of these activities is Putukan, which was
won by Ma’am Mayflor Briones and Ma’am Angie Abejero. For blind Make-up artist, Sir Leonard Medez and Ma’am
Rosalind Zamora won the game. After that game, there are students who came from different grade levels to present
their inspiring and meaningful messages to all the teachers in Mabato PCHS, especially to their respective advisers and
subject teachers.
Almost all the messages of the students were all about the goodness, sacrifices, and other things that teachers offer to
their students. Students are indeed appreciative and grateful to all the teachers in MPCHS. Kudos Teachers! You are our
today’s real heroes!

MATH CULMINATION
BY: MARYCRIS KABRISTANTE
AND JOLINA TANO

Every year we celebrated the Math Culmination held in our campus on October 2019 , with the
theme “MATH FOR LIFE: CEATING CRITICAL THINKERS AND PROBLEM SOLVERS”. All
teachers and student are so busy for the program, and activities such as Soduko, Math Trivia , Tangram
Modulo Art, Tessellation and Mathematicians look a like.

Soduko won by Michaela Yurong from grade- 10 Gniess Mathematicians look alike won by Jonard
Kadusale from grade -12 Tanzanite, but sadly, no one got the exact pattern for the modulo art and
tessellation. And in the Tangram, Mars Steven Bongcawil and Camel Alberto from Grade 11 Aquamarine
got the 1st spot. However, lots of the students got the correct answer in the Math Trivia. Math Culminaton
is coordinated by Ms. Angie T. Abejero the class Adviser of Grade 10 Gneiss and was also participated
by the school T.I.C Ma’am Meldy P. Teves. This Culmination creates tremendous experience to all
students and staffs of Mabato Provincial Community High School.
