SCENE 1 – BANQUET, NIGHT [KABANATA 1-3]

NARRATOR: Dreams. Light and Dark. It seems like a lot of people are suffering. A lot of people decided
to remain silent yet it ended in danger. Yes, living with fear and sorrow, I’ll wait for the day
all of this madness to finish, away from failures and torture. So, all of you, my dear enemies,
foreigners, Touch me not.

NARRATOR: Know the story of the people living in San Diego, plenty of sadness, cold hearts. Some are blind
and act like nothing’s wrong. In the street of Anloague of Binundok, in a mansion, there lives a
man who is name Don Santiago de los Santos, also known as Kapitan Tiago. He’s known in the
whole town because of his wealth. also, for his kindness. One-night in his house…

TIYA ISABEL: Hesusmaryosep! Can’t everyone wait!

VISTIOR 1: It’s a big feast, what do you think?

VISITOR 2: Naturalmente! Kapitan Tiago is one wealthy man. He’ll never worry about expenses

NARRATOR: The halls in the house is divided into two. One, you can find the fine ladies and gentlemen. On
the other side, you’ll see Padre Damaso, the former priest of San Diego. Padre Sibyla, The priest
of Binundok, Ginoong Laruja, and Tenyente Guevarra. Compared to the crowded area at the
side, the conversation of the mentioned names was louder. The loudest came from Padre
Damaso

PADRE DAMASO: tsk! What a vexing country! It’s obvious that the government is much different than Madrid!
What’s worse is several Indio’s live here! I hate them! I’ve been serving and bearing eating rice
and bananas in San Diego, as the parish priest for 20 years. But when I left, just a small crowd
sent me away! Don’t people understand gratitude!

GINOONG LARUJA: Slow Down! Remember, father, we’re under the Indio’s domain!

PADRE SIBYLA: He’s right, Reverencia, Kapitan Tiago might feel bad

PADRE DAMASO: There’s nothing to worry about. Tiago doesn’t see himself as an Indio anymore. He’s far from

KAPITAN TIAGO: Juan Crisostomo Ibarra, He came from Europe. I fetched him from his long trip

CRISOSTOMO: I’m very happy to meet you all. Padre Damaso! The priest of San Diego, I’m glad to see my

NARRATOR: After that, you’ll see Ibarra getting to know the people on the other side of the hall

been left to Padre Damaso, while others have the thighs, due to frustration, he just sipped the
soup and crushed the papaya causing a loud noise on the plate, he dropped the utensils beside
the plate. When the supper is near to end, Ginoong Laruja spoke

GINOONG LARUJA: How long has it been since you last visited this town. Senor Ibarra?

CRISOSTOMO: Seven Years. Sir

GINOONG LARUJA: In your 7 years of living in Europe, maybe you have already forgotten your hometown

CRISOSTOMO: Truth to be told, it’s my hometown who forgot me. Though I’m always thinking about them

DONYA VICTORINA: Is that true Hombre?

CRISOSTOMO: Yes, Donya Victorina. I have never forgotten my country, not even once

GINOONG LARUJA: To all other countries you have been, for you, what is the most beautiful and remarkable?

CRISOSTOMO: Well, other than Spain, I’ve never loved anything as much as my country after I have studied the
history and culture of our country. I’ve started forgetting about the commendable actions in
that country

PADRE DAMASO: Well, then, you’re a blind fool, child, why bother wasting your wealth to go to Europe if you

CRISOSTOMO: Senyores, stop wondering about our past priest, he was like that since I was a child and I think

NARRATOR: He felt the weight of a light hand on his shoulder, looking back he saw Tenyente Guevarra with a
weak smile.

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: Be careful of your hidden enemies, boy. What happened to your father should be a lesson for
you.

CRISOSTOMO: Forgive me for my father became close to you as I know, but my father doesn’t have hidden
enemies

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: Sometimes, being too comfortable leads us to danger… [LIGHTS OUT] Your father, Don Rafael
does not nor never believe til’ his last breath had hidden enemies.

CRISOSTOMO: Now I know the reason why Kapitan Tiago hesitated to tell me what really happened to my

this country is more of a heroic act.

SCENE 3: SAN DIEGO, DAY [KABANATA 4.2]

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: Your Father, like what the world knows is one of the most respectable persons in San Diego/ but
some of his fellowmen hates him. He has a different philosophy, his enemies say that he is a
traitor from the church, leaked by Padre Damaso when even there is no name mentioned…
Sometimes, a gunner collects tribute from the people. This gunner however is a fool and cannot
read nor write. People are mad because of his extreme ways. To take revenge, some people
whom are rich would change the content of their receipt when it was signed by the captain. One
day, a child together with his sibling tricked the gunner. [LIGHTS ON]

BATA 1: [LAUGHING] Mister, can you please read this letter?

ARTILYERO: Out of the way! If you don’t want to be arrested!

BATA 2: really? You’ll arrest us? But read this first [GIGGLE]

ARTILYERO: You dimwits! [PUNCHING AND KICKING CHILDREN]

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: Your father happened to be there, and came to help

[THE GUNNER FELL HIS HEAD AND WAS HIT BY A SHARP ROCK]

DON RAFAEL: You deserved that! [LIGHTS OUT]

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: The people saw it and came to help the man and was brought to the infirmary, later that day the
gunner died. And that is the reason for the imprisonment of your father, Ibarra, all of his
enemies came together with Padre Damaso, he was close on being set free because the court
couldn’t prove his sin. But he was accused of something he didn’t do. Many years came and
there’s confusion on what he had done. He’s one of the people who joined the revolution,
claimed fields, the traitors were reading an article that came from Madrid. Hiding the letters and
photos. Alas, justice won. He will be set free because of the lack of evidence. But sadly, your
father died due to an unknown condition during his time in prison. He was rotten in prison
because of his wealth. [LIGHTS ON] I’m so sorry Senor Ibarra

CRISOSTOMO: if only I knew earlier. [TEAR] My father went through a lot.

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: I’m sorry, but I have to go, I will let Kapitan Tiago to continue the story

CRISOSTOMO: Muchos Gracias, Tenyente, for sharing this story

NARRATOR: The two of them parted ways, Tenyente went to the quarters, while Crisostomo to the kalesa
back to Forde De lala

SCENE 4: KAPT TIAGO’S HOUSE, NIGHT [KABANATA 6]

NARRATOR: Meanwhile, back in Kapitan Tiago’s mansion

KAPITAN TIAGO: Do you think my guest were satisfied Isabel?

TIYA ISABEL: The answer is obvious, Yes, I bet they are full of bliss from all the food that we served

KAPITAN TIAGO: It’s just that Ibarra left at the middle of the celebration

MARIA CLARA: Looks like something’s bothering you father, what’s wrong?

KAPITAN TIAGO: Gracias my dear, I’m just thankful to the Lord for they gifted us a wonderful life. But it would be
even happier if your mother didn’t pass away

NARRATOR: The next morning, you will see Maria Clara sitting in a chair beside a window. [LIGHTS ON] She is
busy on doing embroidery. You can notice that she is waiting for someone

MARIA CLARA: All might God, It’s already late!

NARRATOR: Her boredom soon disappeared as soon as the carriage stopped Infront of her house

CRISOSTOMO: Good morning Tiya Isabel! I wish to talk to Maria Clara

TIYA ISABEL: She’s inside! Come in! come in!

KAPITAN TIAGO: Como estas, Ibarra, thank you for visiting our humble home

CRISOSTOMO: Good morning, Don Tiago I wish to visit your daughter

KAPITAN TIAGO: Of course, Clarita! Ibarra wishes to talk to you! Isabel, please fetch her in her room, she might be

NARRATOR: Later that day, the two of them were talking in the Asotea

CRISOSTOMO: Beauty is in the preference, in my heart, you’re the only one that I love… I’m sorry but I have to
go tomorrow in Todos los Santos, for I need to visit someone there

MARIA CLARA: I understand, I wish you farewell and have a safe travel

CRISOSTOMO: Goodbye, my love

KAPITAN TIAGO: Look what love has done to them~

they’ll guide him on his way

SCENE 6: KAPT’ TIAGO’S HOUSE, DAY [KABANATA 9]

NARRATOR: Early in the morning, Tiya Isabel and and Maria Clara went outside until they bumped into Padre
Damaso, who was going to their house

TIYA ISABEL: Good morning, Reverencia

PADRE DAMASO: Good morning, Tiya Isabel, Maria Clara, it looks like your going somewhere. May I ask where
that is?

MARIA CLARA: We are going to beateryo father, I’m just going to get the last of my things there

PADRE DAMASO: Ah okay, Bueno, I’ll just talk to your father, I wish your safety on your way!

TIYA ISABEL: Muchas Gracias, Padre

SCENE 7: GRAVEYARD, DAY [KABANATA 12]

NARRATOR: Meanwhile in San Diego, the grave men were busy, though Tomorrow was Todos los Santos, the
two of them were talking, while digging someone else’s corpse

SEPULTURERO 1: [SMOKING CIGARETTE] Hey, lets dig in another place, that corpse is still new

SEPULTURERO 2: Well, all of them are new!

SEPULTURERO 1: [THROWS SHOVELS] Ugh! I give up! There’s still blood on the corpse!

SEPULTURERO 2: You’re so delicate! Compared to me, once I dug out a body that was only 20 days old. It was
dark and raining that time!

SEPULTURERO 1: Well im leaving now [STEPPED INTO A SKULL] ugh! I hate this job, im sure that I won’t be able to
sleep tonight

SCENE 8: GRAVEYARD, DAY [KABANATA 13]

NARRATOR: Because of Todos los Santos, the cemetery was brought back to life, lots of people came, even
Ibarra did, along with him is a messenger for he came to visit the grave of his father

CRISOSTOMO: Do you know where my father’s grave is?

UTUSAN: Yes Senorito, I planted Adelfa plants and place a big cross in his grave so that I will always
remember where it is

NARRATOR: After an hour of searching, they couldn’t find where it was

CRISOSTOMO: I thought you know where it was?

UTUSAN: Sorry Senorito, I truly know where it is, I just can’t understand why we’re lost… Oh! There it is,
I’m certain that he was buried here

CRISOSTOMO: Ask the grave man, why my father’s grave is like this

UTUSAN: Um… excuse me, do you know where the grave with a big cross is?

SEPULTURERO 1: Ah! You mean the grave that was surrounded by Adelfa flowers? I buried it

BOTH: You buried it!?

NARRATOR: Unable to control his emotions for Padre Damaso, he went home to his village. The Priest fell
down because of the force that Ibarra gave while letting go

UTUSAN: Im sorry for his actions, he doesn’t know what he’s doing because of his Anger

PADRE SALVI: I have already forgiven him but even for me, what happened to him was truly harsh. I wish for
God to bless him on his way

NARRATOR: Ibarra was already home he was sad and angry that’s why when he was alone, he let go of his
feelings, like he never did it before. He did not notice time was passing until the bell of the
church rang

SCENE 9: KUMBENTO, NIGHT [KABANATA 15]

NARRATOR: Crispin and Basilio in the 2nd floor of the Kampanaryo, they are the Sacristan siblings. Basilio was
then while Crispin was 7

CRISPIN: We have to rest brother; it’s been a while since we’ve been stood here hanging the bell

BASILIO: You know we can’t Crispin, the Head sexton will have us at his feet

CRISPIN: Sadly, how much will be our salary this month

something… sick or anything even

BASILIO: Crispin, don’t say things like that…

NARRATOR: Speaking of the devil, The Head Sexton arrived

HEAD SAKRISTAN: You hard headed children! Be shameful! Not once in your life have done anything right! You!
Basilio! You will pay a fine of two reals for slacking off! You won’t be going home until 8… rather
10!

CRISPIN: But the guards…

HEAD SAKRISTAN: How dare you answer me back! [SLAPS] I couldn’t care less about what happens! And you! You
stupid child! You will not go home til you’ve returned what you’ve stolen! THIEF

BASILIO: Crispin… Crispin…. CRISPIN! [KALADKAD OUT OF STAGE]

NARRATOR: Basilio had done nothing to save his brother. Only shouts, screams, and cries were heard.
Thereafter the tenth hour, the whole church had closed. So, he pulled of the gash so he could
slide down form the window of the bell. Two gunshots were heard in the street, but no one
noticed…

SCENE 10: HOUSE OF SISA, DAY [KABANATA 16]

NARRATOR: Meanwhile, in the humble home of Sisa can be seen out of town. The mother of Crispin and
Basilio. She enjoys cooking the fish and pork that Pilosopong Tasyo gave her. She also cooked
rice and a freshly picked tomato from her backyard to make sauce

SISA: Yes! For sure Basilio and Crispin will be Happy with the food I prepared. For sure Crispin will
enjoy his favorite fish with tomato. Im lucky that Tasyo also gave me pork!

NARRATOR: While Sisa is preparing, her husband Pedro came

PEDRO: Im hungry! Oh, that food you’re cooking looks tasty, may I taste it?

SISA: But Pedro… those are for…

NARRATOR: Before Sisa ended her sentence, Pedro already ate all the dish. She felt that she is the one who
was being eaten, Sisa has nothing to do but hold her tears

PEDRO: I’m leaving

SISA: Wont you wait for our kids to come home? Basilio will get his salary today

PEDRO: Is that so? Just save some money for me, I have to go. I might get late in the cock fighting arena

NARRATOR: Sisa had nothing to. She was so sad, to comfort herself she sung. While singing, she cooked 3
fish and chose to suffer. She knows that this is not enough for the three of them… what

SISA: [OPENS DOOR] Oh my God! Basilio! What happened?

BASILIO: Don’t worry mom, Crispin left the abbey

SISA: Left? Is he alive?

BASILIO: [STARES AT MOTHER] [SLOWLY AND SILENTLY NODS]

SISA: [SMILES] Ah! Thank heavens he’s alive. Why is there blood on your head? Oh my…

BASILIO: I ran away from the abbey, the Head Sexton let me off so late and so I had to escape, the
Guardia Civil hounds as they shouted “quiet vive!” They tried to shoot me and a bullet scraped
my head

SISA: Shame on those Guardia Civil, for they have no heart! Come, and let’s clean your wound

NARRATOR: AS his mother cleans the wound. Basilio wished to keep what truly happened to him. Hiding
specific details

SISA: Sorry, I can only feed you what your father had left of the fish, sorry…

BASILIO: Did he hurt you again?

SISA: Don’t worry, he didn’t hurt me, any bit. Now why did they not let Crispin go home with you?

BASILIO: He was punished for he was framed for stealing 32 reals, which he did not steal, however he is
not allowed unless you pay for it

NARRATOR: And so Basilio and his mother slept on the floor. Basilio’s mind was bombarded of the images of
his brother’s suffering and screams of help in a corner of the abbey. And so, he fell asleep, body
restless… dreaming

PADRE SALVI: [VOICE ONLY] Fool of a child! You thief!

CRIPSIN: Please forgive me! Let me go!

HEAD SAKRISTAN: Do not hide, curse you child! [SLAP SOUNDS]

SCENE 11: KUMBENTO, DAY [KABANATA 18]

NARRATOR: Sisa picked the freshest and sweetest of the vegetables in her garden, as soon as the sun has
raised. After this she headed to the Church to talk with the Head Sexton

SISA: Hello! Good Morning!

KUSINERA: And who might you be?

SISA: My name is Sisa, Mother of Crispin, one of the youngest sacristans. I have brought vegetables
for the priest

KUSINERA: Sure, leave them by the side

SISA: Here?

KUSINERA: Just leave it anywhere

SISA: If that is so, can I at least talk with Crispin, my son?

KUSINERA: No can do, the priest is ill

SCENE 12: HOUSE OF SISA, DAY [KABANATA 21]

NARRATOR: Sisa is running because of fear that her children might be caught because of an accusation they
didn’t do.

SISA: Oh lord, don’t let my children be alone

NARRATOR: When she comes at their place. She was surprised on what she saw. There’s two Guardia Civil
that are looking for something. She hid first, but soon after found her

NARRATOR: Elias quickly informed Ibarra of the situation

[ELIAS RUNNING TO THE IBARRA’S] [SPOTLIGHT TO THE IBARRA’S]

ELIAS: Im afraid this upcoming revolution will get you in some serious trouble. The rebels are paid to
scream your name as they carry out their plan. You must leave this place at one!

NARRATOR: It was time for Supper. Kapitan Tiago, Tiya Isabel and Linares got ready for dinner. Maria Clara
refused to indulge in any kind of food, she lost appetite. Instead, she snatched Sinang by the
hand to play the piano. On the other hand, Padre Salvi was pacing back and forth in the large
room, anxious. For the time is near; 8:00 PM that is what he told to Alperes the rebels will make
their move by then. After a minute or so, Ibarra made his way into the premises. It was
plastered all over his face – sadness, and anxiousness combined. Maria Clara tried to approach
him, but a couple of gunshots made her stop short. Kapitan Tiago, Tiya Isabel, and Linares
immediately dashed out of the Supper hall. Clara and Sinang huddled close to one another while
Tiya Isabel quickly muttered a prayer

ALPERES: You can come down; Padre, Danger has been eliminated!

NARRATOR: Tiya Isabel ushered the two ladies in their rooms and Padre Salvi reluctantly went down the
stairs

CRISOSTOMO: Prepare my fastest horse!

GUARDIA CIVIL 1: Halt! This is an order from the King of Spain! In his name open this door!

NARRATOR: Crisostomo looked through the windows and loaded his gun, Then, finally, he opened the door

GUARDIA CIVIL 2: Juan Crisostomo Magsalin y Ibarra, you are under arrest!

CRISOSTOMO: For what?

GUARDIA CIVIL 1: Your questions will be answered in due time. If you promised not to escape then we won’t time
you up. Be grateful!

NARRATOR: Elias decided to come back to Ibarra’s household. With this, he broke into Ibarra’s room and
took a few items. After securing a gun, and a picture of Maria Clara, he burned the place down

SCENE 28: SAN DIEGO, NIGHT [KABANATA 57]

ALPERES: This is the man who foolishly led the fight against the Spaniards! Tell me young man, what did
Ibarra promised in exchange for this rebellion

TARSILIO: WE only sought revenge for our father! You killed him, didn’t you? Ha! Just try looking for the
two of your allies. They’re probably dead by now!

ALPERES: Who are the others [SHOWS BRUNO AND LUCAS’ CORPSE] How about these two? Do you know
them?

NARRATOR: The man’s name was Tarsilo. Those are the corpse of his best friends. He didn’t talk nor said a
thing. And so, the beating started. Padre Salvi was scared – what he’s seeing is terrifying, so like

[TIYAGO AND ISABEL WERE HUSHLY TALKING]

VICTORINA: It’s quite advantageous to have a relative in the government, don’t you think? [LAUGHS] I knew
it! I should’ve seen! I should’ve done something the moment I knew that Crisostomo was a
Pilibustero!

KAPITAN TIAGO: What did the Kapitan Heneral say about him?

VICTORINA: Well, Linares told me he’s to be hanged [HOHOHO]

LINARES: No! he’s-

VICTORINA: There’s no need to keep it a secret cousin! You’re the general’s adviser and- [MARIA CLARA

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: I think he should be exiled instead. They trusted the letters too much. If the court disregarded
what was written and the evidences presented, Then I believe that Ibarra can be declared
Innocent.

LALAKI 1: What do you mean?

TENYENTE GUEVARRA: The rebels denied the involvement of Ibarra, although had misunderstandings with a boy named
Lucas. The case was only based on a mere letter that was given to a girl before he went to
Europe, they say it has something to do with rebelling against the government

PADRE SALVI: How did they get a hold of it? The letter, I mean.

LALAKI 1: Maybe the girl got scared?

LALAKI 2: Or, it’s the government that devoured the facts and confronted the so-called recipient.

NARRATOR: The Tenyente approached Maria Clara who entered the scene

TENYENTE: You did well dear, you gave up the letter, didn’t you?

MARIA CLARA: Excuse me.

NARRATOR: Kapitan Tiago kept knocking on Maria Clara’s room, however she did not let here enter. She
went to the Asotea, she then saw Ibarra

MARIA CLARA: Crisostomo!

CRISOSTOMO: Yes, it is I, I promised to make you happy no matter what. I came here to keep my end of the
bargain, but it seems like you’re not able to keep yours. It’s for that reason that I decided to let
you free

MARIA CLARA: Im sorry… it’s not that I discovered something about my true identity. My father isn’t really my
father. I can’t marry you. I can’t risk that secret being revealed. My mother’s infidelity will be
discovered and my father’s reputation will be destroyed

CRISOSTOMO: You need proof

MARIA CLARA: It is the Truth proven by my Mother’s letter; it was given to me in exchange for the one you gave
me. I betrayed you. Im sorry. I was only forced to change it since I did not know to use. I had no
choice but to endure and hide the letter of the truth

CRISOSTOMO: Oh maria, you truly are an angel

CRISOSTOMO: But you’re getting married

MARIA CLARA: Yes, for that’s what my father wants. He loved and cared for me even though he’s not obliged

CRISOSTOMO: What do you wish to happen?

MARIA CLARA: The future is dark and unclear. But I just want you to know that you are my first love, my only
love, and no one else. But what will happen to you?

CRISOSTOMO: I just escaped; I need to go before they find me here…

MARIA CLARA: farewell... my love.

NARRATOR: Crisostomo doesn’t want to leave, but he had no choice. He went back to the boat where Elias is
waiting to aid his escape.

SCENE 30: LAKE, NIGHT [KABANATA 61]

NARRATOR: Elias was briskly paddling to San Gabriel…

ELIAS: I will bring you to my friend in Mandaluyong, and the money that I hid. You can use it to escape
this country

CRISOSTOMO: Escape this country?

ELIAS: You can live freely out there; you have friends in Spain, right?

return your dear treasures. Come, with me, and let’s be brothers, for we are the unfortunates of
our country

ELIAS: I will only be sorrowful out there. I would rather suffer and die here

CRISOSTOMO: But, why are you pushing me away?

ELIAS: Out there, you still have a chance of victory, if you will experience hardships. One day you too,
will betray your own country

CRISOSTOMO: NO! Never! I only think for the greater good of this country

ELIAS: You don’t Understand, I know you love our country but you haven’t experienced the pain! The
torture, the hunger! I truly believe that you will betray this land.

CRISOSTOMO: You have a point, “que sera, sera” is what I always say. It is clear to me that our country is
rotting in sickness that needs help, a cancer of society that needs curing. Me who defends my
country is now a Pilibusterismo.

NARRATOR: In front, they saw guards, panicking and frolicking

ELIAS: They noticed your escape! Quickly! Hide beneath the piles of leaves!

NARRATOR: Elias silently continued to paddle. They continued sailing until they heard someone scream. They
are being chased by a boat. Elias saw another one coming their way with a couple of guard
onboard

ELIAS: Crisostomo, we might get caught. Take over the paddle for I will jump in the water to serve as
bait. I’ll lead them astray

CRISOSTOMO: No! don’t go! Let’s just fight them!

Buena in the graveyard of your Ancestor

NARRATOR: After that Elias jumped in the water. The Guardia Civil saw Elias swimming and chased him. They
continuously fired bullets at him. Elias swam underwater and never rose up. After a few hours,
the boat and the civils left when they saw the tracks of blood along the seashore

SCENE 31: KAPITAN TIAGO’S HOUSE [ KABANTA 62]

[MARIA CLARA WAS LOOKING AT THE NEWS WHERE CRISOSTOMO DIED]

PADRE DAMASO: You were scared, weren’t you? You were not expecting my presence… im here to witness your
marriage… Are you sick my dear daughter? Why do you look so pale?

MARIA CLARA: [LOOKS AT HIM] Do you love me? Then help me father, so my marriage will be stopped. When
Ibarra was alive, I wanted to fight, hope, and be faithful. I wanted to live so that I will be able to
at least hear somethings about him, but now that he’s dead. Why should I live and endure this
pain?

PADRE DAMASO: But Linares is far better than-

MARIA CLARA: I can marry anyone when Crisostomo was alive. You only want connections between powerful
people. But now that he’s dead. No one will ever call me a wife. I will only choose between the
abbey or the cemetery

PADRE DAMASO: My daughter, please forgive me, I did not mean to hurt you like this. I just wanted to give you a
better future, and happiness because I love you

MARIA CLARA: If you love me, then don’t make me feel sad forever. He’s dead. I just want to die, or better yet,
why don’t you make me a nun?

PADRE DAMASO: A nun! A nun! My dear, you don’t know the mysteries lying behind the walls of the abbey. I am
already old. Maria, I won’t be able to take care of you as well as your happiness. Ask for
something else, you can love any guy, just don’t serve the church

MARIA CLARA: The church or my death!

SCENE 32: FAR AWAY LAND, NIGHT [KABANATA 63]

BASILIO: [PRAYING] May the Lord God bless your soul. All I want for this Christmas is to go home to see
my Family

MATANDA: Your wounds aren’t completely healed yet, and your town is far away from here. It might be
difficult to travel

BASILIO: Im sure that my mother is worried, waiting for me. You have a lot of children but my mother
only has me and my brother

SCENE 33: EMPTY STAGE [KABANATA 63]

NARRATOR: On the other hand, Basilio got home and saw their house in shreds – their mother, nowhere to
be found while limping, he went to the house of Alperes. The Girl, beside the window
commanded the Guardia Civil to bring Sisa upstairs. Upon seeing the guards, Sisa quickly ran

away. Basilio tried to catch up to his mother, but a woman suddenly threw a rock at him.
Despite being hit, Basilio continued to Chase his mother

BASILIO: MOTHER! ITS ME! BASILIO! YOUR SON!

NARRATOR: Sisa went into the forest and Basilio followed here there. He kept on stumbling while
continuously following her mother, they reached the cemetery beside the tree of banyan. There
is a door there that Basilio kept on opening. Sisa tried to escape again. But Basilio fell on
purpose. Basilio was able to hug and kiss his mother. His forehead is filled with blood, so he lost
consciousness. Sisa gazed at Basilio’s face and she was able to recognize him. Sisa Screamed and
remembered everything. Sisa hugged and kissed Basilio tightly until she fell on her knees. Basilio
regained his consciousness and saw his mother unconscious. Basilio got some water and
sprinkled it at her mother’s face. He listened to his mother’s heartbeat… Sisa is dead. Basilio
hugged the cold corpse of her Mother, when Basilio lifted up his head…

ELIAS: Who is that woman?

BASILIO: [SNIFFS] She is my mother

ELIAS: Listen, I am wounded and hungry for two days, I soon will also be dead. Be sure to burn our
bodies. If no one else will come, then dig up the gold that I buried. Take it and use it for your
studies. Ha, I am going to die even before I witness victory. To those fortunate enough to see
the future, welcome it, but don’t forget to remember those who fell into the darkness of the
