CLIMATE CHANGE IS NOT SOLELY TO BE BLAMED FOR THIS PHENOMENON.

DEVELOPMENT IS ALSO A CONTRIBUTORY FACTOR TO FLOODING.


PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF EVERY LOCAL
GOVERNMENT UNIT. BARANGAYS, MUNICIPALITIES, PROVINCES AND EVEN
STATES WORK HARD FOR THIS. BUT PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT IS NOT
ALL ADVANTAGES. DEVELOPMENT ESPECIALLY IF UNRESTRICTED AND
UNCONTROLLED HAS ITS DISADVANTAGES.
ONE IS THE PROBLEM OF TRAFFIC (TRAFFIC WOES) AND FOR THIS 2 – DAY
SUMMIT, FLOODING.
FLOODING PARTICULARLY OF OUR ROADS IS CAUSED BY THE SPROUTING OF
RESIDENTIAL AS WELL AS COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS IN OUR FLOOD PLAINS
DUE TO DEVELOPMENT.

THE ERECTION/CONSTRUCTION OF THESE BUILDINGS REDUCES THE


AVAILABLE AREA OF OUR FLOOD PLAINS. THE CAPACITY OF OUR FLOOD
PLAINS TO STORE FLOOD WATER BEFORE IT DRAINS TO THE MAINSTREAM IS
GREATLY REDUCED CAUSING THE FLOODWATER TO FLOW ACROSS OUR
ROAD WAY. IT IS EXPRESSED OR MEASURED IN CUBIC METER OR VOLUME.
VOLUME IS AREA MULTIPLIED BY HEIGHT. WHEN THE AREA IS REDUCED
BECAUSE OF THESE BUILDINGS AND WITH THE VOLUME OF FLOOD WATER
INCREASING TREMENDOUSLY BECAUSE OF CLIMATE CHANGE, THERE WILL BE
A DRAMATIC INCREASE IN HEIGHT (H) WHICH IS THE DEPTH OF THE
FLOODWATER. THE HEIGHT (H) OR DEPTH OF THE FLOODWATER IS NOW SO
HIGH THAT SOME SECTIONS OF OUR NATIONAL ROADS ARE FLOODED TO A
DEPTH THAT RENDERS THEM UNPASSABLE TO ALL TYPES OF VEHICLES.
