SeaLase II

Electro-optical surveillance and deterrence

lasersec
SeaLase II is a multifunc-
tion electro-optical system
designed to detect, identi-
fy, and deter the approach
of potential threats. It is
comprised of the worlds
highest power non-lethal lasersec
laser device, a long range
high definition camera
with advanced image pro-
cessing capabilities, and
automatic target acquisi-
tion and tracking. Option-
al features include thermal
or SWIR cameras and laser
rangefinders. All compo-
nents comply with relevant
MIL standards and have
been proven in the harsh-
est of environments at
sea and on land. For long
range non-lethal defense,
SeaLase II has no equal.

Laser
At the heart of SeaLase
II is the worlds most ad-
vanced high power non-
lethal laser device. It pro-
vides 5000 mW of green
light to give an effective
deterrent range measured
in kilometers, not 10’s of

sures. Designed, devel-
oped, and produced ex-
clusively by Lasersec , the
laser features proprietary
and patented beam shap-
ing technology. Laser-
sec’s devices are the only
high power lasers to have
received worldwide certifi-
cation by the International
Electrotechnical Commit- Laser module qualification
tee (IEC) as safe for use
as non-lethal deterrents.

Surveillance
Detection is good but iden-
tification is far better. The
camera in SeaLase II pro-
vides full high definition
video output combined
with excellent day and
low light imaging perfor-
mance. In addition, SeaL-

lasersec An improvement in image
sharpness of greater than
10 times over other cam-
eras provides a significant
increase in the distance at
which a contact can be de-
termined to be a threat.

6
SeaLase II is an ideal addition to military vessels as a first measure to avoid Escalation of Force in asymmetric
threat scenarios. The South African Navy and NATO have chosen non-lethal laser systems from Lasersec. 7
Target tracking
SeaLase II uses a two
stage approach for target
acquisition and automatic
tracking. NMEA commands
sent from radar guide the
system such that the target
is within view of the cam-
era. Once there, a corre-
lation based video tracker
locks the target in the cen-
ter of the field of view. If
the target is determined
to be hostile, the laser can
then be activated. When
not tracking a target, the
video tracker can be set to
lock onto the whole scene
and provide feedback to
the pan/tilt unit. This pro-
vides stabilized video out-
put with speed and preci-
sion better than available
with gyroscopic methods.
