In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand
spoken English. There are four parts to this section with special direction for each part.
Part I: Questions 1 to 4
Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear some dialogues and questions spoken in
English. The dialogues and the questions will be spoken twice. They will not be printed in
your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are
saying.After you listen to the dialogue and the question about it, read the five possible
answers, and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.
Now listen to a sample question.

PART II Questions 5 to 7.

followed by four responses, also spoken in English. The dialogues and the responses will be
spoken twice. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to
understand what the speakers are saying. You have to choose the best response to each
question. Now listen to a sample question.

Jogging is a gentle running. Why is jogging so popular today? Why do people jog?
People jog to relax themselves, to keep themselves fit, or simply to enjoy themselves.
Our world today is a world where life is comfortable and easy for many city people. Fast
buses, cars, or motorcycles take us to work or to school. Lifts carry us quickly from one
floor to another in large buildings. So many people get very little exercise.
What do you need to start jogging? You only need a pair of running shoes, an old pair or
jeans or shorts, a sweater, and a little courage. Don’t be embarrassed if you meet your
neighbour as you return home, hot and tired. When you begin jogging, start by running

An antibiotic is a compound that is used to stop the growing process of certain organism, to be precise,
bacteria. In biotechnology, an antibiotic is used as a tool to treat bacterial infection. It works by breaking the
metabolism of the bacteria’s chain. In the process of killing bacteria, antibiotics are not the same as disinfectant
because disinfectant kills bacteria by making a peculiar environment for germs to live in.
Because the antibiotic kills the bacteria quickly, without harming the sufferers, it is known as “the magic bullet.”
even though antibiotics are known as good medication, they are not suggested for use in treating infection caused
by other nonbacterials, such as fungi and viruses.
There are several types of antibiotics, based on how effective they are in treating bacteria. Antibiotics are
divided into two types based on how they are used, namely oral antibiotics and antibiotic intradermal. An oral
antibiotic is taken by the sufferers through the mouth, while the antibiotic intradermal is used through the anus,
usually for serious cases.

Trains are a form of transports which have good prospects. They can be used to solve our country’s
problems, such as increasing energy consumption, traffic congestion, and pollution. Trains are not only
faster, but also more economical in terms of energy use. Trains can carry a lot more passangers than
buses. They also consume much less fuel.
Futhermore, since Jakarta started operating electric trains, they have more produced very little
pollution. According to a survey on transportation in Sweden, the pollution cost of road transportation
is much greater than the pollution cost of trains. Jakarta is the third most polluted city in the world with
its 6.5 million vehicles, mostly private cars and motor vehicles.
Every day, many people, who commute from suburban areas, use their private cars for their
activities. These make roads very crowded. So, it is the right time for government to upgrade and
rebuild the trains, because it will attract many people to use them.

The Incas used to be a large empire of 990.000 km² in Peru of South America. Their city
was high up in the Andes Mountains. They were well- known for their great wealth,
especially gold. This great empire was unfortunately destroyed in an attack by the
Spaniards who were searching for their famed gold. Although this empire existed way
back in 1493, it was not backward but complex and well-organized.
The empire was ruled by the Sapa Inca, Lord of the World, Son of the Sun. He owned
everything in the empire - the land, soil, gold and even the people. The people,
therefore, had no freedom.
Boys and girls were to life of obedience and tradition. They began working in their ayllu
or family groups. The rule was Ama sua, ama llulla, ama sheklla, which means, "Do not
steal, do not lie, do not be lazy."
Despite this difficult way of live, the Incas were very skillful. They constructed drainage
system and underground water reservoirs. Their buildings were made from huge stones.
These were cut to flit perfectly together so that no mortar was needed. Their rope
bridges were so strong that even a horse could gallop across them!
The Incas had no written language. Information was recorded on knotted strings called
quipus. These were also used as calculators. Strong and healthy young boys were chosen
as chasquis or couriers to carry messages from one place to another.
