PREFACE
This is a report based on our experience at PROTEC And PANCHANATH AUTO Pvt. Ltd. Being
a student of Mechanical Engineering we wished a gain exposure to the various aspects of working
in an industry. Our primary goal was to gain some insight into methods of assembly and production
and during our time at the shop-floor, we have achieved it to some extent. It was a good learning
experience and will stand good in future.

ABSTRACT
An industrial internship/training is a part of 6th Semester in which we get a
chance to work with industries and get practical knowledge of working in
industries as an employee. During this internship, We got practical knowledge
about the real work and problems related to the industrial manufactured
products. In daily life, all the companies try to improve their performance and
reputation. All the departments and their respective workers work together as
united in order to carry company forward in future. It’s really wonderful that
We got a chance to work among such kind of workers and got the practical
knowledge. We are thankful to our all faculties for giving us theoretical
knowledge as the first step to take in the industrial world. We are also thankful
to PROTEC & PANCHNATH AUTO PVT LTD Rajkot in order to grant us
this training and helping to us in developing our practical knowledge.

1.6.2 Milling machine:

1 Milling is a cutting process that uses a milling cutter to remove material from the surface of a
work piece.

2 The milling cutter is a rotary cutting tool, often with multiple cutting points

3 The milling process removes material by performing many separate, small cuts.

4 The speed at which the piece advances through the cutter is called feed rate.

5 Face milling is used to cut flat surfaces (faces) into the work piece, or to cut flat-bottomed
cavities.

1.6.3 Shaper Machine:

1. A shaper is a type of machine tool that uses linear relative motion between the work pieces.

2. Its cut is analogous to that of a lathe, except that it is linear instead of helical.

3. Adding axes of motion to a shaper can yield helical tool paths, has also done in helical
planning.

1.6.4 Slotting Machine:

1. The base of the slotting machine is rigidly built to take up all the cutting force.

2. The front face of the vertical column has guide ways for Tool the reciprocating ram.

3. The slotting machine can be used on any type of work where vertical tool movement is
considered essential and advantageous.

4. Ram drive mechanism and feed mechanism are used.

5. The slotting machine is used for cutting grooves, keys and slots of various shapes making
regular.

CHAPTER 2: ASSEMBLY DEPARTMENTS

1 The name for the manufacturing department where the product is assembled.

2 See blending department, pack-out department.

3 A schedule of end items to finish the product for specific customers' orders in a make-to-order.

4 It may involve operations other than just the final assembly; also, it may not involve assembly,
but simply final mixing, cutting, packaging, etc.

5 An assembly line is a manufacturing process in which parts usually interchangeable parts are
added.  Most of the time it’s called as a progressive assembly.

Department of Mechanical Engineering School of Diploma Studies RK University Page 30

Figure 2.01: assembly department

Chapter 3: Casting Department

3.1 INTRODUCTIONS

1 It contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify.

2 Pouring the metal in a mold, and removing the mold material or casting after the metal has
solidified as it cools.

3 The most common metals processed are aluminium and cast iron.

4 The solidified part is also known as a casting, which is ejected or broken out of the mold to
complete the process

Department of Mechanical Engineering School of Diploma Studies RK University Page 31

5 Casting is a manufacturing process in which a liquid material is usually poured into a mold.

Figure 3.01: casting department

3.2 Flow process chart of casting department:

Figure 3.02: casting department flow process chart

3.3 types of casting

3.3.1 Sand Casting:

1 Green sand casting is used largely for heavy casting like casting bells, where the casting are to
be cleaned and polished for fine surface finish.

2 A reasonably priced process, green sand casting enables great flexibility in the choice of molds
and patterns.

3 This is an environmental friendly process where there mold aggregated can be treated and
repeatedly used.

4 This process enables speedy, economical and expeditious execution of the casting process

Department of Mechanical Engineering School of Diploma Studies RK University Page 33

Figure 3.03: green sand mould section

3.3.2 Investment Casting:

1 Close dimensional tolerance.

2 Complex shape, fine detail, intricate core sections and thin walls are possible.

3 Ferrous and non-ferrous metals may be cast.

4 Costs are higher than Sand, Permanent Mold or Plaster process Castings.

5 The process cost is justified through savings in machining.

1 During my session of training I have learned that from a raw material to a finished product the
process is been done in departments.

2 The skilled engineers inspects the jobs with equipment's

3 I have learned how machine maintance is carried out during the given periodic time.

4 It helped improve my practical knowledge.

5 It helped me adjust to the industrial environment.
