LQCMODE Link Quality Meaning: It is applicable to the radio transmission environment to improve the link quality. Link adaptation (LA) indicates
Control Mode adjusting the coding mode of the channel dynamically according to the transmission quality of the link. The link
transmission quality is measured by the 8PSK MEAN BEP and 8PSK CV BEP in the Packet EGPRS Downlink
Ack/Nack message sent by the MS. The network side determines the coding mode for data transmission according to
the radio measurement report sent by the MS. The cell with the good transmission quality on the air interface is set to
the LA mode. Increment redundancy (IR) mode requires the network side retransmit the data block with different
punching codes and the MS store the historical error information. The data block is retransmitted through cooperated
error correction function. With the IR mode, the transmission quality on the air interface of the cell can be improved.
However, the MS must support this IR mode. The cell with the dissatisfied transmission quality on the air interface is set
to the LR mode.
GUI Value Range: IR(IR), LA(LA)

Impact on Network Performance: It is recommended that this parameter be set to 2, so that the uplink rate is increased.

ULMEANBEPDegradeLevel Constant for Meaning: Constant used to calculate the actual MEAN_BEP when adjusting uplink coding schemes
Calculating The BSC uses the following formula when adjusting uplink coding schemes:
Actual UL

Parameter Relationship: None
Service Interrupted After Modification: No (And no impact on the UE in idle mode)
Impact on Network Performance: If this parameter is set to a small value within the valid range, the single-timeslot
throughput and the retransmission rate increase. If this parameter is set to a large value within the valid range, there is
a high probability that low-level coding schemes are used. In this case, the retransmission rate and the single-timeslot
throughput decrease.

ULCVBEPDegradeLevel Constant for Meaning: Constant used to calculate the actual Variation Co-efficient for the Bit Error Probability (CV_BEP) when
Calculating adjusting uplink coding schemes. Decreasing CV_BEP helps decrease MEAN_BEP values and instructs MSs to use
Actual UL low-level coding schemes.
CV_BEP GUI Value Range: 0~7

Service Interrupted After Modification: No (And no impact on the UE in idle mode)
Impact on Network Performance: None

UseHistoryCS Preferentially Meaning: Whether an MS preferentially uses a valid historical coding scheme during the establishment of an EGPRS
Using Valid TBF
Historical CS When this parameter is set to OFF, an MS preferentially uses a historical coding scheme if the historical coding scheme
is MCS7, MCS8, or MCS9. If the historical coding scheme is not MCS7, MCS8, or MCS9, the MS uses the coding
scheme specified by Default Uplink MCS and Default Downlink MCS.
When this parameter is set to ON, an MS uses a valid historical coding scheme.
GUI Value Range: OFF(OFF), ON(ON)
Unit: None
Actual Value Range: OFF, ON
MML Default Value: None
Recommended Value: ON(ON)
Parameter Relationship: None
Service Interrupted After Modification: No (And no impact on the UE in idle mode)
Impact on Network Performance: Setting this parameter to OFF(Off) leads to a decrease in the number of EGPRS data
blocks using high-rate coding schemes and large fluctuations in the number of EGPRS data blocks using different
coding schemes. Setting this parameter to ON(On) leads to an increase in the number of EGPRS data blocks using
high-rate coding schemes and small fluctuations in the number of EGPRS data blocks using different coding schemes.

ULFirstBlkChangeCS Adjusting Curr Meaning: Whether to adjust the current coding scheme upon receiving the first data block carried on an uplink EGPRS
CS Receving TBF
First UL Data GUI Value Range: OFF(OFF), ON(ON)
Block
Unit: None
Actual Value Range: OFF, ON
MML Default Value: None
Recommended Value: OFF(OFF)
Parameter Relationship: This parameter is valid only when Support EGPRS Uplink MCS Dynamic Adjust is set to 2.
Service Interrupted After Modification: No (And no impact on the UE in idle mode)
Impact on Network Performance: If this parameter is set to OFF, the current coding scheme is adjusted after the BSC
receives a certain number of data blocks carried on an uplink EGPRS TBF. This deteriorates transmission performance.
If this parameter is set to ON, the current coding scheme is adjusted after the BSC receives the first data block carried
on an uplink EGPRS TBF. This improves transmission performance.

NoDataReportBEP Adjusting the Meaning: Whether to adjust the uplink coding scheme if the BSC fails to receive data blocks from an MS in Abis over IP
BEP If No Data mode.
Blocks Received If the parameter is set to OFF(Off), the uplink coding scheme is not adjusted.
If the parameter is set to ON(On), the uplink coding scheme is adjusted.
GUI Value Range: OFF(OFF), ON(ON)
Unit: None
Actual Value Range: OFF, ON
MML Default Value: None
Recommended Value: ON(ON)
Parameter Relationship: This parameter is valid only if ADJUSTULMCSTYPE is set to 2.
Service Interrupted After Modification: No (And no impact on the UE in idle mode)
Impact on Network Performance: If this parameter is set to OFF(Off) and the BSC fails to receive uplink data blocks
because of poor Um interface quality, the coding scheme is not adjusted, but the probability that uplink temporary block
flows (TBFs) are abnormally released increases. This leads to an increase in uplink TBF releases. If this parameter is
set to ON(On) and the BSC fails to receive uplink data blocks because of poor Um interface quality, the coding scheme
is moderately adjusted, but the coding scheme for TBF assignment does not increase. This leads to a decrease in
uplink TBF releases.

DLPriorityDegradeULMCS Change Currt UL Meaning: Whether to change the current uplink coding scheme to a lower-level one if an MS preferentially processes
CS to downlink services
Lower-Level If GUI Value Range: OFF(OFF), ON(ON)
DL Ser Prefer
Unit: None
Actual Value Range: OFF, ON
MML Default Value: None
Recommended Value: OFF(OFF)
Parameter Relationship: None
Service Interrupted After Modification: No (And no impact on the UE in idle mode)
Impact on Network Performance: If this parameter is set to OFF and the downlink throughput of an MS is higher than
the uplink throughput, the BSC does not allocate low-rate coding schemes to MSs. In this case, the uplink
retransmission rate may increase and there is high probability that high-rate coding schemes are used in the uplink. If
this parameter is set to ON and the downlink throughput of an MS is higher than the uplink throughput, the uplink coding
scheme is changed to be lower than the downlink coding scheme. In this case, the uplink retransmission rate decreases
and there is low probability that high-rate coding schemes are used in the uplink.

EstULOnDLChooseCS Choosing UL CS Meaning: Choosing an initial uplink coding scheme if an uplink EGPRS TBF is established in a downlink EGPRS TBF
Prev Rel TBF If When this parameter is set to OFF, the default uplink coding scheme is used.
UL TBFs Est in
When this parameter is set to Historical Coding Scheme, the coding scheme used in the previously released uplink
DL TBFs
EGPRS TBF is adopted.
When this parameter is set to Lower-Level Coding Scheme, the BSC first works out a coding scheme based on an
uplink quality measurement report from the BTS, the BSC then compares the calculated coding scheme with the coding
scheme used in the previously released uplink EGPRS TBF, and lastly the BSC chooses the lower one.

high probability that high-level coding schemes are used. If this parameter is set to Historical Coding Scheme, the uplink
access success rate decreases and there is a high probability that high-level coding schemes are used. If this
parameter is set to Lower-Level Coding Scheme, the uplink access success rate increases when the radio environment
is unfavorable. If this parameter is set to Higher-Level Coding Scheme, there is a high probability that high-level coding
schemes are used when the radio environment is favorable.
