Guidelines for the Project Assignment

International Economics (ECON F244)

Following are the guidelines for successfully completing project assignment:


 You will receive an email from your instructor mentioning the topic of your assignment.
Please explore the area and define specific topic for your project assignment. It is advisable
to start thinking and working on your project. You have full two months to complete it.
 Change of topics are not allowed. Level of all topics are same. You are not expected to do
advance research on these but we expect you to do basic research so that you can learn
from this activity.
 Report submission deadline is 31st March, 2020. The online platform of submission will
soon be announced in the class.
 There will be a standard format of writing project report, as defined in Annexure-1 of this
document.
 Marks of this project assignment is equally divided into two parts: Project Report and
Presentation.
 Each participant of the group will be equally responsible for whatever is included in the
report and presentation. Therefore, it is advisable to work as a team. All members of a
particular group got same marks on the basis of set criteria.
 Read as many papers as you can to complete the assignment but do not copy anyone’s work
in to your report. At this stage, you can follow his/her idea and work as per the steps
mentioned but always quote him/her.
 Write your report in your own words. After completing report, it is advisable to read full
report by all the members of the group for last minute typos and errors, if any. This will
enhance the quality of your project report.
 At the end of the semester, you need to present your work in the class (Dates will be
announced in the class)
 There will be a standard format of making presentation slides, as defined in annexure-2 of
this document.

Format of Writing Project Report

General Rules –
 Font Size: 12
 Line spacing: 1.5
 Font: Times New Roman
 Font size of Table Text: 10

 Reference style (within and at the end): APA

Other Guidelines –
1. Title page
a. Title of the Project
b. Course Name
c. Declaration by the group members with their signatures (Copy & paste the
following declaration)
“It is declared that we, the group members, are submitting our original work in
terms of project report on the topic assigned to us to fulfil the partial requirement
of the course ECON F244 (Economics of Growth and Development). We all are
equally responsible for the contents included in it and declare that all contents
are plagiarism free. Wherever necessary, all the references are duly quoted
within the text and bibliography is provided at the end”

d. Group Members’ Information (Name and ID Numbers) with their signature


2. Acknowledgement
If you took anyone’s help for completing this assignment, then you must quote his/her
name here. He/she can be your senior, junior, Ph.D. student, or anyone else (someone
can be from outside BITS who have helped you in getting data and helped you online).
Mentioning someone’s name who actually helped you is a very good thing .

3. Contents Page
Prepare section-wise contents and mention only the main heading with its page
number (use the Microsoft word utility of making contents in one click)
4. Introduction – Section 1
a. Introduce your topic
b. State clearly the objectives
5. Review of Literature – Section 2
Write-up on the available literature (existing studies) on the same topic with its
relation with your objectives. Don’t forgot to refer his/her name within the text and
in the last section of bibliography.
6. Database and Methodology – Section 3
a. Database: Mention the sources of data taken for the analysis and also the
construction of relevant variables for the analysis
b. Methodology: Write-up on the procedure which you have followed for the
empirical analysis with details.
7. Empirical Findings – Section 4
Use appropriate tables and graphs/figures to show your results from the analysis.
Don’t forgot to interpret your results with economic reasoning.
8. Conclusions and Policy Implications – Section 5
a. Conclusion: Conclude your study in one para
b. Policy Implications: Provide policy implications in one para
9. Bibliography – Section 6
Use APA style of citing someone’s work/idea used in your report (visit the link for

Annexure – 2
Format of Making Presentation Slides

Presentation slides should have at least one slide on the following headings:
 Title Slide – mentioning topic and name of Group members – 1 slide
 Introduction – providing introductory remarks on your topic – 1 slide
 Rationale of the study – Rationale of studying this topic – 1 slide
 Objectives of the study – Your study’s objectives – 1 slide
 Literature review – Crux of studies referred into the review section of report – 1 slide
 Database Used – Information on source of data and variable construction (you can use 2
slides to show construction of the variables, if any)
 Methodology Used – Information on Method used to arrive empirical results and rationale
behind using it (can use more than one slide)
 Empirical Findings – Tables, graphs and interpretation (show main results with the help
of graphs, figures, tables and can use more than one slide)
 Concluding Remarks – Conclude your results – 1 slide
 Policy Implications – Provide two to three policy implications of your study – 1 slide
 Bibliography – Mention all the references of the project report in the last slide(s)
