CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter shows the research design, population or respondents of the study,
research sample and the sampling method that the researchers used in conducting this study.
Every part of this study involved in conducting this study. This chapter include the whole
research process that provides more detail explanation about the study.

3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN/STRUCTURE


In this study, the researcher used phenomenological research design. Phenomenological
design seeks to describe the status of a variable, experiences in life or a phenomenon. This
study is dealing with human interaction, behavior and perspective.

3.3 POPULATION, RESEARCH SAMPLE AND SAMPLING METHOD

Population
There were 8 respondents interviewed. They’re selected students in Tagaytay
City Science National High School from senior high school and were asked to answer a question
through an interview. They were chosen through convenience sampling, since the only
selected students from senior high school were needed to state their side and perspective
regarding the dissolution of marital unions that affects the Filipino Values System.

Therefore for this study, the population from which the samples were derived consists
of the following interviewees:
a) Selected Senior High School students
Research Sample and Sampling Method
The respondents of this study came from Tagaytay City Science National High
School. The respondents were given a random question from the interviewers. All the
respondents are Senior High School students.
The study will use a Convenience Sampling. It is a non-probability sample that is
selected based on characteristic of a population and the objective of the study. The main goal
of convenience sampling is to focus on primary information gathered from the interviewee that
are of interest, which will best enable to answer research questions.

3.4 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.4.1 Data Collection Method


The researcher applied only one method of data collection techniques. This was
done to gather and collect relevant data to address the research objectives of this study.

3.4.1.1 Library Research

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The researchers used a structured interview to gather the needed
data and information. The draft of the list of questions are based on the researchers’ readings
and published thesis relevant to the study. On this way, the instrument is authorized to obtain
valid responses of the students.
The questions needed to be answered in this study are the following:
1. How old are you when your parents separated?
2. Are they legally or illegally separated?
3. Which side are you in?
4. What are they frequently arguing about?
5. What are the effects of their separation to them?
6. Is it easy for you to socialize after your parent’s separation?
7. Did your family practices changed after your parents separated?
8. Did your parents’ separation make you unable to do what you used to do?
9. What are the changes have you noticed in yourself after they split up?
10. What changes in your family values after your parents separated?

3.4.2 Analysis of the Qualitative Data
