native speakers. The following pairs of verbs can be confusing:

Rise to go up. The verb to rise means to get up, move under one’s own
power without someone else’s help. ex: When the bell rings, the students

Raise to lift. The verb to raise means to lift or elevate an object, to increase
something. ex: the teacher raised his hand to tell the children to be quiet

lie to rest : The verb to lie means to rest, repose, or to be situated in a place.
It is often used with the preposition down. Ex: The university lies in the
western section of the town. If the children are tired, they should lie down
