A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 8

Date: February 2020

Competency: Identify the mode of an ungrouped data

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Discuss the meaning of mode;
2. Solve problems involving measure of central tendency (mode); and
3. Observe cooperation in performing group tasks.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Measure of Central Tendency (Mode)
B. Reference: Mathematics Learner’s Module pp 485, Abuzo et. Al (2013)
C. Materials: Powerpoint presentation, manila paper, cut outs, activity sheets
D. Subject Integration: Values and English
E. Values Integration: Critical Thinking, Cooperation and Creativity

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity Formatted Table
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
“Let us have our prayer.”
Mathematics Prayer

Almighty God
We pray for you
To have our joys added,
Sorrow subtracted, (The students will pray.)
Friends multiplied,
Love divided,
And problems be solved,
Amen.

2. Greetings
“Good morning, Class!” “Good morning, Sir.”

3. Classroom Management

“Before you take your seats, kindly arrange your chairs (The students will arrange
and pick up pieces of papers under or near from you.” their chairs and pick up the
“Isn’t it amazing that we have clean learning pieces of papers under their
environment?” chairs.)

4. Checking of Attendance “Yes, Sir!”

“Class, are we all present for today?”

“Very good. Everybody is present.”

“Yes, Sir. Everybody is
B. Motivation present.”
“Before we start, let us have a short game. This game
is called “Kulang ako kung wala ka.”

“KULANG AKO KUNG WALA KA”

(Hangaroo)
Each group will guess a letter that will complete the
unsolved puzzle. If the group can guess the complete
words of a puzzle after giving a letter, they will
consider as the winner.

“Are we clear? are you all ready?” “Yes Sir!”

O Answer: Ronald Aylmer Fisher

He is considered as the father of Modern Statistics
“Yes Sir!”
Did you enjoy the game?

C. Activity
“Now we are going to have a group activity. Each
group will receive a drill board to write down the
answer and when I said GO, all of the groups will raise
their drill boards.”

“In our activity entitled “THINK FAST”, I will flash a

slide that will show different objects or figures and all
you have to do is to identify or look for the most
occurring objects in each slide. This is the twist you
only have 3 seconds to look for the object then after
that you need to write down the name or draw the
object itself.”
“Yes Sir, We are.”
“Are you ready?

D. Analysis
“It is very exciting Sir.”
“Class, what can you say about the activity?”
“Sir, we look for the objects
“What did you do to find the objects occurred the that has most numbers.”
most?”
“We count the number of every
objects then find the object
with the most number.”
“Our activity has a relevance with one of the three
central tendencies which is the Mode.”

“Now, can someone define the meaning of the mode “Sir, Mode is the number figure
based on our activity?” or object in a set which
occurred the most.”
E. Abstraction
Read and analyze.
The mode of a set of data is the value that
occurs most frequently. The mode does not exist
when all your observations occur with the same
frequency.

Also we have three types of set of data according

to the number of their mode/s.
Unimodal- set of data contains one mode.
Bimodal- set of data contains two modes.
Poly-modal- set of data contains two or more
values.

F. Application
Directions: Read and analyze.
The numbers of customers of Waltermart
Nasugbu for the first thirty days of January are as
follow. Identify the mode.

1,920 1,864 1,935 1,570 1,843 1,920

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
“Good Afternoon, Class!”
2. Opening Prayer
“In the name of… AMEN.”
3. Arranging of Chairs
“Before taking your seats, please arrange your chairs and pick up the pieces
of papers under your chair.”
4. Checking of Attendance
B. Motivation
“KULANG AKO KUNG WALA KA”
(Hangaroo)
Each group will guess a letter that will complete the unsolved puzzle. If the group can
guess the complete words of a puzzle after giving a letter, they will consider as
the winner.

IV. Lesson Proper

A. Activity
1. Individual Activity
Who is the most Popular?

The students will answer the following question by raising their answers.
a. Who is your favorite male actor?
Daniel Padilla
Enrique Gil
James Reid

b. Who is your favorite female actor?

Kathryn Bernardo
Liza Soberano
Nadine Lustre?

c. What is your favorite subject?

English
MAPEH

Mathematics
d. Who is your intelligent classmate?

2. Group Activity
“Ikaw at Ako Pareho, Pero walang Tayo”

Directions: Read analyze carefully. Solve for the following.

a. Recall all your grades in Mathematics last quarter. Write all the grades below. Encircle
the most frequent grades of your group. Tell it to the class.

b. Write all your ages below. Identify the most occurring ages of your group. Tell it to the
class.

c. Brown, black and blue are the most common colors of our eyes. List the color of each
of your group mate’s eye and cross out the most occurring. Tell it on the class.

d. Each of you was asked for the friendliest classmate of your section. Make a list and
box the most occurring, if any.
e. Give your best characteristics as a person and list it down. Cross out the most occurring
characteristics.

B. Analysis
The students will answer the following questions.
1. How did you find the activity?
2. From the first activity, what is your most occurring answers for the most favorite
male actor? Female actor? Subject? Intelligent classmate?
3. From the last activity, what grades does your group have in common?
4. What is/are the common age/s of your group mates?
5. The activity you have done has something to do with the mode. Now, how are you
going to define the mode?

C. Abstraction
A. Read and analyze.
The mode of a set of data is the value that occurs most frequently. The mode does
not exist when all your observations occur with the same frequency.

IVE. Assessment
Directions: Find the given mode of the given set of data. Encircle the mode.
1. (12, 10, 9, 12, 15, 11, 12)
2. (15, 20, 18, 19, 18, 16, 20, 18)
