Introduction
(Funnel Type)

(Setting or context to claim its centrality with citation)

Fly ash is a waste material from thermal power station. It as a additive in concrete has an
effect which cement doesn't have. Fly ash affects the workability of fresh concrete and
affects the strength, deformation, setting time and durability for freeze-thaw
resistance, impermeability .corrosion resistance etc. of hardened concrete. The utilization
of fly ash could eliminate the pollution, reduce the cost of concrete.

(Aspects of the problem which were already studied with citation)

For a variety of reasons, the concrete construction industry is not sustainable. First, it
consumes huge quantities of virgin materials. Second, the principal binder in
concrete is portland cement, the production of which is a major contributor to greenhouse
gas emissions that are implicated in global warming and climate change.
Third, many concrete structures suffer from lack of durability which has an adverse
effect on the resource productivity of the industry. Because the high-volume fly ash
concrete system addresses all three sustainability issues, its adoption will enable the
concrete construction industry to become more sustainable.

Fly ash, a principal by-product of the coal-fired power plants, is well accepted as a
pozzolanic material that may be used either as a component of blended portland
cements or as a mineral admixture in concrete. In commercial practice, the dosage of
fly ash is limited to 15%-20% by mass of the total cementitious material. Usually,
this amount has a beneficial effect on the workability and cost economy of concrete
but it may not be enough to sufficiently improve the durability to sulfate attack,
alkali-silica expansion, and thermal cracking.

(Statements highlighting the gap for the present study to fill; indication of the need for
more investigation.)

From the previous studies conducted, because of good hardness and thermal properties,
fly ash has been used in the construction, industrial and highway engineering, in the form
of ash . It is used as surfacing and filling in roads, the floor tiles in the construction and as
the lining material in the pipes for transporting the hot fluids. This can be major
replacement to the asbestos, which possess health hazards by damaging respiratory
systems.

In the current study, a proposed 50% addition of the entire hardened mixture will be
performed instead of a 15% -20% limitation by mass of the total cementitious material.

(Statements giving positive value or justification for carrying out the study)
With the completion of this study fellow researchers will knowledgeable about fly ash
,it's, properties, process , and the usage of fly ash in construction industry.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

1. The purpose of the present research was to develop non-clinker “green”

cement using industry wastes and fly ash (FA).

2. Determine the workability of fresh concrete by adding 50% fly ash.

Determine how fly ash addition affects the strength, deformation, setting time

3. To reduce the cost of concrete
