Weekly blog week 5:

This week what have you done:

This week I have been continuing on with my codes and conventions research as this is the
next week setup in place to do this. The first thing that I did this week was create a survey
based on information I found out about in the previous week about the genres of
documentaries . my survey yet again explained my idea and then asked the question what
style/genre do you think my idea would fit into. I also made sure to include a link to my page
with descriptions of what the genres of documentaries were as most people will not know
this. After i sent this out through email to people that i knew and have sent this too before i
managed to get 19 responses. ​47.4% voted that my idea would work best as an expository
documentary. 31.6% voted for preformative and 21.1% voted for participatory. From this I
decided my production would fit in the expository genre. I then went onto look at two
professionals that make documentaries for a living to see what they do well and what i could
take from them and their work. This week I also had to complete two analysis pieces on
existing productions. Once all of this was done i then moved onto the techniques and the
technical side of the research looking at interview setups and how i would edit the production
for help later on in the project.

Target audience
Last time that i checked in about my target audience it was originally 15 - 40 but ​After talking
with my teacher and gaining some feedback on what I had done looking into my target
audience so far I have decided to change it. It used to be 15 – 40 but it is now going to be 15
– 60. This is because my teacher thought it would be important to educate the older
generation about respect in professional games as they have a love and passion for the
team they support and standby not the game itself. This means that it will appeal to all the
groups I have mentioned in the past as well as and even older generation due to me finding
out this information.

What genre / style is my production

The genre / style that my production is going to be is expository. I found this out from the
help of my genre survey that i created and explained about earlier on in this blog.

What productions have you looked at?

I have looked at two productions that both relate to my idea. This is because they are both
sports documentaries. The first one I looked at is also about football. This is called “Kicking
and screaming” and was released in 1995 it covers the history or english football up to that
point in a short tv series. The other production I chose to analyse is called “Hoop dreams”
which was released in 1994. It follows two young basketball players that are ​high school
students in Chicago trying to make it big and become a pro player.
