Other informations
Iron sand is an UVCB substance, including (name (EC/CAS), concentration): Iron (231-096-4/7439-89-6)
35%, Silicon dioxide (231-545-4/7631-86-9) 35%, Aluminium(III)oxide (215-691-6 /1333-84-2) 4,3%,
Calcium oxide (215-138-9/1305-78-8) 3,5%, Magnesium oxide (215-171-9/1309-48-4) 1,1%, Zinc (231-
175-3/440-66-6) 1,3%, Sulphur (231-722-6/7704-34-9) 0,5%, Copper (231-159-6 /7440-50-8) 0,6%,
Manganese (231-105-1/7439-96-5) 0,4%, Chrome (231-157-5/7440-47-3) 0,3%
Please note that iron sand has a glasslike structure and that the various components are bonded to each
other and are not present as free substances. Granulated slag consists mainly of fajalite (iron silicate), EC-
nr 237-687-3, CAS-nr 13918-37-1. Oxide forms present in minerals 15%
4.2. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
The product may cause temporary mechanical irritation to the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. The effects
might be delayed. Contact with molten product may cause burns to the eyes, nose, throat and lungs.
4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treat symptomatically.

8.2. Exposure controls
Compliance with the stated exposure limits values should be checked on a regular basis.
General recommendations
Observe general occupational hygiene.
Exposure scenarios
If there is an appendix to this safety data sheet, the indicated exposure scenarios must be complied.
Exposure limits
Trade users are covered by the rules of the working environment legislation on maximum concentrations
for exposure. See work hygiene threshold values above.

12.4. Mobility in soil
Iron sand is a complex inorganic substance (UVCB). It mainly contains iron silicate and silicates of aluminum
and calcium. Traces of metals exist in metal, mineral form or included in silicate phases. A physico-chemical
characterization of the substance demonstrated that the trace metals are firmly built in and bonded into the
glass/crystal structures of the silicate and other mineral phases. This resulted in limited release and low
measured water-solubility of the trace metals present in the matrix.
Contains metals which may be leached out by water if in contact with acidic water (low pH) in low scale.
12.5. Results of PBT and vPvB assessment
The PBT and vPvB criteria do not apply to inorganic substances.
12.6. Other adverse effects
