ABSTRACT

Ibaan is a second-class municipality in the province of Batangas, Philippines.

The residential and industrial sectors remained as the major drivers of electricity

consumption in the municipality. The potential for renewable electricity production

is in need to meet a large portion of future electricity demand. Renewable energy

sources are sources of energy that is constantly replenished through natural

process. The extent of changes in the energy sector, the designers came up to put

up a solar power plant located at Sabang, Ibaan Batangas.

Solar photovoltaic system or solar power system is one of the renewable

energy systems which uses PV modules to convert sunlight into electricity. Since

the conventional sources are rapidly depleting, the cost of energy is rising and

therefore solar energy is the inexhaustible source that is abundant in the

municipality, pollution free and distributed throughout the area. The PV system is

very reliable and clean source of electricity that can suit wide range applications in

the municipality such as residential, industrial, agriculture and livestock. The solar

PV system components to be installed in the area were properly selected

according to the system type, site location and applications.

Thus, this capstone design project will offer an adequate design, installation,

operation and maintenance of a solar power plant which will control and manage

the present and future demand of the yard. To match certain load requirements of

the consumer, at a minimum cost of the system the project will focus on the

following: design of the system based on the power requirements and solar data

availability; proper selection and installation of components, specifically for grid-

connected PV systems configurations; establish key design features including the

type of PV module used, tilting angle, mounting and tracking systems, inverters

and module arrangement; design a PV Power Plant that is optimally balanced in

terms of cost and performance for a specific site; effective operation and

maintenance of the power plant; and economic aspect of the project.

The proponents’ study to analyze the grid integration opportunities, challenges

and implications of high levels of renewable energy generation within Brgy.

Sabang, Ibaan Batangas. The projection of the electricity demand within the

municipality is an important consideration in determining the extent to which a

predominantly renewable electricity is feasible. The installations of solar

photovoltaic power plants for both utility-scale and distributed power generation

applications will support the power requirement during full operation considering

the payback period of construction.
