Lesson Plan for Executive Skills (lesson title)

Students will: Be able to name and effectively use at least 3 study strategies.

Students will: Be able to create a study plan that helps organize subjects and manage
time.

Procedure: Describe how you will:
Introduce: Pre-test (7 min):
● Hand out pre-test to class and have each student fill it out.
Discuss some of their answers.
Ask the class (3 min):
● What are some strategies you use when studying? Record
responses on the board.
Communicate The lesson objective is to be able to understand how to manage your

that works best for you, and different study strategies that help you
learn the material better.

Teach Content: Present (7 min):


● Present the PowerPoint slides to explain different study
strategies to the students. Make sure students understand they
can use more than one option. They can also try different
strategies until they find the one that works best for them.

Time-management worksheet (10 min):


● Have each student fill out a time-management worksheet. The
worksheet asks them to evaluate how often they plan ahead, use
a calendar, or procrastinate.
● After they are done discuss what strategies could be used to help
improve their time-management skills from “not too much” or
“sometimes” to “often, usually”. Also discuss who around them
could help them with time-management.

Practice Content: Study environment activity (15 min):


● Pass out three small quizzes to the entire class. The quiz will not
be graded or collected. Each student will take the first quiz while
it is completely silent in the classroom. The next quiz will be
taken while there are a lot of very loud background noises. The
final quiz will be take while there is some noise, but it is not that
loud and not silent. After all the quizzes are done, we will discuss
what it was like to take the quizzes in each environment. Which
worked best for students? What did or didn’t you like about it?

Summarize: Summary (5 min):


● Discuss with the students what we learned today. Write on the
board new study strategies students learned.

Close: Post-test (3 min):


● Provide post-test to all students and collect at the end to check
for understanding of the lesson.
