CALPORT CALIBRATION

NOTE: Do not pulse more than 100 times continuously into the Cal Port. A
clean window MUST be installed onto the end of the HP Slider before
calibrating.

1. Install the delivery system. Turn off the DCD from the front panel.

2. Install the 12/15/18 mm HP Slider. Set the handpiece for 15 mm spot size.

3. Measure the voltage at TP20 (+) and TP10 (-) on the CPU/Laser I/O board with a
DVM. It must be between -0.005 VDC and +0.005 VDC.
If not, adjust R136 CALPORT LOW. Remove DVM and test leads.

4. Enter READY and pulse into the energy meter, 6” away.

Adjust the voltage until 53 - 54 J is measured. Record this voltage for future
reference.

5. Install the handpiece into the Calport. Verify that the 15 mm spot is still selected.
Pulse into the Calport no faster than 1 pulse every 3 seconds.
Adjust R175 CALPORT HIGH until the CP value on the terminal is 30 - 31 J/cm2.

6. Note that adjusting R175 affects the value of the offset voltage at TP20. Therefore,
recheck the voltage at TP20 and readjust R136 if required to get the TP20 voltage to
be between -0.005 VDC and +0.005 VDC. Then repeat step 5. This step may have to
be repeated more than once to get the proper adjustments on R136 and R 175

7. Set the reference voltage for 0 V in maintenance. Pulse the laser twice, ignoring the
first pulse. The CP value on the terminal must be 0.0. Set the voltage for 100 V and
pulse 5 times. The CP value must be no greater than 0.4.

8. Set the voltage back to the voltage in step 4. Verify calibration by pulsing 5 times into
the external OPHIR meter and 5 times into the Calport (1/3 Hz or slower), recording
the readings in the following table and performing the calculations to determine the
calibration error.

9. External Fluence = External meter average x 0.566 = _______________ J/cm2

10. % error = [(Calport average / external fluence) - 1] x 100 = ____________%

11. The error should be ±2%. If not, readjust R175 CALPORT HIGH and repeat.

12. Adjust the handpiece for the 12 mm spot size and pulse 5 times at 1/3 Hz or
less (voltage still at the Step 4 value). Record the readings in the following
table. Adjust the handpiece to the 18 mm spot and repeat. Using the external
meter average from the previous step, do the calculations as shown to
determine the % errors.

18 mm:

External Fluence = External meter average x 0.410 = _______________ J/cm2

% error = [(Calport average / external fluence) - 1] x 100 = ____________%

The errors should be ± 14% or less. If not, contact Service Support.

13. Adjust the handpiece to 12 mm and adjust the voltage until 5 - 7 J/cm2 is read at
the Calport. Be sure to ignore the first pulse after each adjustment, and be sure
to pulse no faster than 1/3 Hz. When the desired voltage is achieved, pulse 5
times into the Calport (1/3 Hz) and 5 times into the external meter, recording the
readings in the following table and doing the calculations shown for the error.
