Hello Sir/Mam.

I Almas Ansari is currently enrolled in the B. Tech computer science programme in Jamia milia
islamia, New Delhi in batch of 2019-2023. The current programme in which I am enrolled will help
me to explore the fields of programming, machine learning and data science. Along with my degree,
I am working on grasping knowledge about graphic design.

Being a science enthusiast and a curious student, During my free time, working on many projects
have also fascinated me. Internship at IIT Roorkee would be one of the best way of spending two
months of this year learning new things. Major programme of Spark IIT Roorkee 2020 is related to
machine learning which is a truly explorable field. Machine learning can have a great application in
everyday use. Some applications are crop analysis, disaster management etc. still a wide variety of

Now a days big data is playing an important role in Indian Elections

Biig data has the potential to provide crucial insights and uncover essential
facts that can
Be immensely benefial for organizations.
Big data is helping political parties to read voters minds
A certain kind of online behaviour creates a demand, and as more content is
produced because of that demand.
The politician who has access to this data know the best way to voters is
through videos
Whatsapp group admins are making full use of that.
According to a survey, there are 90 crore voters in India, around 54 crores are
mobile phone users having Facebook and Whatsapp accounts.
An anlysis shows about 30% of the total voters can be influenced by the use of
social media in these elections
In elections season Big data is worth its gigabytes in gold because it allows
customized campaigns, just like targeted ads.
Both national and regional parties are working with massive data sets of online
behaviour to understand household in a constituency.
Parties are analysing first-time voters, floating voters, demographics, caste and
socioeconomic segments.
This data is for devising campaign strategy, selection of candidates as well
building a pro-perty narrative.
Besides polling booths and caste, parties also collect data on utility bills such as
power bills etc.
Utility bills give an idea about the socioeconomic status of a voter.

The same analytics that helps a company sell toothpaste or Bluetooth speakers
are being used by parties to peddle their poll pitches.
Parties have realied the potential of Big data for influencing the masses.
Worlds biggest exercise
An eighth of the world’s population was eligible to vote in this election, making
the largest Democratic exercise in the history of humanity.
Polling stations are set up wherever people live
India has to reach voters in coastal cities in the south, in the rural regions of
the west, Jungles in the east and Himalayas in the North.
Also every citizen should be within 2 Km of a voting station.
India has 2.3 million Electronic voting machines for its 900 million eligible
voters.
Transportation methods of all types are used like in the jungles of Eastern state
of ASSAM where elephants are used
Or In Himalayas, officials hike for hours to bring EVMs for election day.
Helicopters, trains, even camels are used for transportation.
India has 22 official languages and hundred of dialects
When India got independence merely ¼ population could read or write, so
symbols were used, so that regardless of literacy level and language could vote
with confidence.
Problems:
Allegations of election rigging and problems with a practice called booth
capture.
Gangs actually take over polling stations and tamper with the elections.
To counter these allegations, Election commission introduced Electronic voting
machines in the 1990s
While VVPAT machines were introduced in order to keep a check on any sort of
corruption
The election process takes millions of officials fanning out across a massive
country to help hundreds of millions vote, they ensure that voting is ensured
to every citizen.
