How is a concerto first movement form like a sonata form and how is it
different?

Developed an expo, dev, and recap in how it works, where first part is
preceded by orch intro which itself resembles expo of a sonata but stays in HK

How is a concerto opening ritornello like an exposition, and how is it


different?

Like a double exposition, where the orch stays in HK but has the M, T, and S,
then solo part is the one that modulates

In Mozart’s concertos, what determines whether the transition is new material


or from the opening ritornello? What other places in the solo exposition are
likely to introduce a new theme?

Not same succession of ideas found in ritornello, or if there is alternative MT?


If solo MT is based off of ritornello, then T will be new. If alternative MT, then
T will be from ritornello. If R MT is used for MT group then T will be new
material

How is the end of the concerto solo exposition different than that of a sonata
form? How is this related to the history of the genre?

Bravura theme, and expansion to show off virtuosity

Why is the closing ritornello usually divided into two distinct parts?

Sounding its own music, portion before cadenza and one after cadenza
