MASS ETIQUETTE: What to do and what to not do when attending mass? 1. FAST – Do not eat any food for one hour before the mass starts. Drinking water is allowed. 2. COME EARLY – Allow 10 – 15 mins of meditation before Mass 3. DO NOT EAT – Eating is not allowed during Mass 4. DRESS PROPERLY – This is to show decency and honor to God 5. NO PHONES – Phones should be turned off 6. PARTICIPATE – Sing, respond, listen, and pray 7. COMMUNE – Examine conscience beforehand 8. THINK OF OTHERS – Respect the pew and queue 9. BE STILL – Don’t be in a hurry. Enjoy and feel God’s presence and thank Him for His graces How to Pray Properly: 1. Show respect 2. Read from the Bible 3. Thank God 4. Ask forgiveness 5. Ask for guidance 6. Pray for others HOW TO MAKE A GOOD CONFESSION: 1. Prepare - Take some time to think over your thoughts, words and actions before going to confession 2. Welcome - When you enter the confessional, the priest will greet you and perhaps say a short prayer or read from Scripture 3. Begin with the Sign of the Cross - When the priest instructs you, make the Sign of the Cross. He may ask you the last time you went to confession 4. Confess - Tell the priest all of your sins 5. Agree to penance - The priest may offer some words of advice and will also suggest a penance 6. Resolve to change - Pray aloud an Act of Contrition. 7. Receive God’s Mercy - The priest will pray the words of absolution over you. When he is done, respond, “Amen”. 8. Give thanks! - The priest may offer a word of praise for God’s mercy 9. Go in peace - When the sacrament is concluded, the priest will dismiss you. “Go in peace!”
