Quartile
Quartiles are the score points which divide a
distribution into four equal parts. 25% of the data has
a value ≤ Q1, 50% of the data has a value ≤ Q2 and
75% of the data has a value ≤ Q3. The Q1 is called
the lower quartile value, Q2 is nothing but the median
and Q3 is the upper quartile.
Decile
The deciles are the nine score points which divide a
distribution into ten equal parts. They are deciles and
are denoted as D1, D2, D3,.….,D9.
Percentile
The percentiles are the ninety-nine score points
which divide a distribution into one hundred equal
parts, so that each part represents the data set. It is
used to characterize values according to the
percentage below them. The percentiles determine
the value for 1%, 2%,….., and 99% of the data. P30
or 30th percentile of data means the 30% of the data
have values less than or equal to P30.

On page 364-377 on your textbook, there are activities were given. Observe the activity
and read the discussion of Measures of position to know how to solve, and answer the following
questions:
1. What are the ways to determine the ways of position in a given set of data?
2. What method will you use if the position obtained is decimal? Explain why it is being
used.
3. What will happen if the position of a certain value in a given set of data can be
described and used in solving real-life problems? Explain why this happen.
4. What are the relationships of each measures of position after finding the position in
doing the activity?
