Scoring Scheme Description

Objective The Student will be able to Illustrate measures of

position, which are:

Quartile
Quartiles are the score points which divide a
distribution into four equal parts. 25% of the data has
a value ≤ Q1, 50% of the data has a value ≤ Q2 and
75% of the data has a value ≤ Q3. The Q1 is called
the lower quartile value, Q2 is nothing but the median
and Q3 is the upper quartile.

Decile
The deciles are the nine score points which divide a
distribution into ten equal parts. They are deciles and
are denoted as D1, D2, D3,.….,D9.

Percentile
The percentiles are the ninety-nine score points
which divide a distribution into one hundred equal
parts, so that each part represents the data set. It is
used to characterize values according to the
percentage below them. The percentiles determine
the value for 1%, 2%,….., and 99% of the data. P30
or 30th percentile of data means the 30% of the data
have values less than or equal to P30.

Test Item Describe each measures of position according to its

uses. (9 pts.)

Scoring Criteria 1 pt. for each measures of position, to a maximum of

3pts.
2 pts. For each description that describes each
measure of position, to a maximum of 6pts.
No penalty for spelling, punctuation or grammatical

Scoring Scheme Description

Objective The Student will be able to interpret measures of

position. The student will draw a conclusion of the
relationship of each measures of position

Consider that the first quartile of the scores of Grade

10 students in their final examination in Mathematics
in a 50-item test in a 40 students is 38.
Therefore, 25% of the students got a score less than
or equal to 38.
The ¼ of the interpretation of the scores in Quartile
is the same with 2.5 of the decile as well as the 25%
of the percentile.
Test Item In 50-item test of the 40 students in their Final
examination in Mathematics, solve and interpret the
first quartile of the scores. Explain the basis of
interpreting the scores in quartile, and relate the
relationship in interpreting deciles and percentiles.
Limit your answer in 1 page only. Your answer will be
graded according to the rubrics given. (25pts.)

Task 4. Open-book Exam: Mathematics Quarter IV- Grade 10

Objective: Illustrate measures of position.

On page 364-377 on your textbook, there are activities were given. Observe the activity
and read the discussion of Measures of position to know how to solve, and answer the following
questions:

1. What are the ways to determine the ways of position in a given set of data?
2. What method will you use if the position obtained is decimal? Explain why it is being
used.
3. What will happen if the position of a certain value in a given set of data can be
described and used in solving real-life problems? Explain why this happen.
4. What are the relationships of each measures of position after finding the position in
doing the activity?

For each question:

1. State your observations about quartile, decile, and percentiles.

2. Show evidence to assess your observations.
