happily married couple who has a lone but bubbly daughter named Emma. Mary loved her Emma so much and treated
her like a princess, for there could no being that possessed such beauty her daughter has.

Narrator 2: But despite this, Emma wasn’t always fond of the girly materials her mother would bring her. Just at a young
age she has found a love for stuff that would only be for boys. Emma would always look up to her father, Chris, and
wanted to be just like him. A strong man his father was, although he suffers from a genetic heart condition and gets
attacks from time to time. One summer day, the family went shopping.

Scene 1 (Shopping)
Mary: Emma! Come look! These are really gorgeous dresses! I’m sure they would look good on you.
Emma: Mom, a regular t-shirt would be nicer. *looks for boys clothes instead*
Mary: Oh, I heard there will a pageant in this town on the end of the month. You would be a good candidate, Emma.
These are pretty heels, I would like you to wear them on that pageant! Do you like this one better than this one?

Mary: Emma? Emma! Why are you trying out boys’ clothes? Take that off right now!
Emma: Mom, but these look cool on me!
Mary: Cool? It’s awful!
Chris: Mary, let your daughter try on the stuff that she wants.
Emma: You’re the best, Dad!
Mary: Stop it. I will as long as it isn’t stuff that isn’t for her gender! Your daughter is acting weird, Chris!
Chris: It’s okay. She’s acting fine. Let’s just go home and call it a day.
Mary: No. Emma, come with me. We’ll get those dresses and heels and you will join that pageant.
Chris: Mary… I’m not feeling well. Please, let’s go home.
Emma: *thinks of a genius idea* Mom, I’m fine! Just give me the money and I’ll buy it. You and Dad can go home.
Mary: I need to see you buying it Emma!
Emma: I am, Mom. *buys the heels, shows it to her mother* See you later Mom and Dad!
Mary: Okay, Emma. Take care.

*Emma returns the heels to the shop owner and uses the retrieved money to buy boys clothes*
*Returns home and sees her parents having dinner*

Scene 2 (At Home)

Emma: Hey, Mom and Dad.
Chris: Come join us with dinner, Emma.
Emma: I will. I’m just gonna go to my room and fix all these shirts--- I mean, dresses in my wardrobe.
Mary: Hurry, Emma. You won’t get any dessert if you take too long.

Emma: These are awesome! Argh, but I hate my long hair. I wish I had boys’ hair and look like Justin Bieber or
something.
Mary: Emma is taking too long, I’m gonna go and check on her. *hears Emma*
Emma: Why does Mom keep insisting that I wear girly clothes? Ugh, I hate that! I wish Mom was like Dad, he accepts me
for who I am.
Mary: What did you say? *sees her wardrobe* Emma, what’s this? What’s all of this? Where are the dresses I told you to
buy? WHERE ARE ALL YOUR CLOTHES? WHY ARE THESE ALL FOR BOYS? Remove that, Emma! Take that thing off!
Chris: What is going on? Mary!
Emma: Dad! *Chris lifts up his daughter*
Mary: Your daughter is disgusting me Chris! I have not raised my own child to be like this! I carried you for 9 painful
months and this is what you’re gonna do to me? You are a girl, Emma! A GIRL! ACT LIKE ONE!
Chris: MARY! STOP. Your daughter is still a person. Who cares if she’s a lesbian? The important thing is—
Mary: Lesbian? Don’t even mention that disgusting word around me. I do not have a child who is a lesbian! *storms out
of the room*
Chris: *gets a heart attack*
Emma: Dad? Dad! DAAAD!
Mary: Chris! Emma, help me!

*They get Chris to a hospital*

Scene 3 (Hospital)
Mary: Chris… Chris! Please wake up!
Emma: Dad! Dad!
Mary: Get the hell out of here Emma. You are not my daughter anymore. This is all your fault!
Emma: I don’t care if you disown me, he’s still my father and I’m still his daughter!
*Chris flatlines*
Mary: Chris! CHRIS!!! WAKE UP! FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE!
Emma: DAAADDD! Dad, please wake up! Please wake up! Please… *cries*

Narrator 1: Ultimately, doctors were unable to revive Chris. He has finally succumbed to his heart condition which left
the remaining members of the family, Emma and Mary, grieving for their loss.

Narrator 2: A couple of years later after Emma’s father’s death, the mother and daughter’s lives went downhill. They
have lived in poverty. Mary only worked as a laundrywoman, while Emma sold vegetables around their neighborhood
for a few cents. Emma isn’t the bubbly kid anymore. She has become hard-hearted which stems from the death of her
father. Mary on the other hand can’t still accept that her husband is gone and still isn’t in good terms with her daughter.
One late afternoon, Emma came home from buying food in the local market.

Scene 4 (Walking home)

*Emma is walking and bumps into a guy; drops the groceries she had*
Emma: Hey, watch where you’re going, prick!
Suspect 1: What did you say?
Emma: Are you deaf? I told you to watch where you’re going. *Guy blocks her way*
Emma: Get the hell out of my way.
Suspect 1: Make me.
Emma: *punches the guy in the stomach* Heh. You’re weak after all. *purposely bumps the guy*

Scene 5 (At home)

Emma: Mom, I brought some food.
Mary: What happened to your hair, Emma? Did you cut it?
Emma: Yeah, and who cares? Even if I grew my hair it wouldn’t change a single thing on how you look at me.
Mary: Watch your words, Emma!
Emma: Why would I watch my words? When I was younger you did nothing but make me feel like a worthless person. Of
all the bad people why did Dad have to go? THERE ARE SO MANY BAD PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, WHY DID GOD HAVE TO
TAKE DAD AWAY? Sometimes I just wished Dad was here and you died instead!
Mary: *slaps Emma* You have no right to say that, Emma! *storms out the room*

Scene 6 (The Kidnapping)

Suspect 2: Yeah, that girl is alone in the house right now. Should we get her?
Suspect 1: Yes. Go for it!

Emma: *cries and drinks liquor* *throws the cup* Why does life have to be like this? WHY? If God loves me then why am
I still suffering? WHY AM I STILL SUFFERING?! IS IT BECAUSE I’M LIKE THIS? IS IT BECAUSE I AM LIKE THIS? HUH?!
ANSWER ME!

*Suspect 1 and 2 bust into room and tie a handkerchief around Emma’s mouth*
*Emma continues screaming*
*Suspect 2 removes handkerchief from Emma’s mouth*

Emma: Where am I? WHERE AM I? *sees the Guy* You! You’re the guy from earlier!
Suspect 1: I am. And this is what you get for messing with me. *swipes blade softly around Emma’s neck* Do you want
me to kill you?
Emma: KILL ME FOR ALL I CARE! I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF EVERYTHING!
Suspect 2: Oh, no dear. We want to see you suffer first. *slices arm* *Emma screams*
Suspect 1: Who’s weak now? *laughs* *Guy and girl leaves the scene for the moment*

*Emma breaks free*

Suspect 2: She’s running free!

Suspect 1: Get her!

Emma: Mom! MOM!

Mary: Emma what is-- *sees guy and screams* *Guy shoots the gun and hits Emma* *Emma dies*
Mary: EMMA! NOO!

Suspect 1: You won’t live long enough to see your daughter alive. *shoots Mary* *Suspect 1 and 2 run away free*

Narrator 1: The suspects of Mary and Emma ran away and have never been found by the authorities. The mother and
daughter have been rushed to the hospital, but ultimately had led to their untimely death. The Hopkins family is now
finally resting, but not in peace.

Narrator 2: This is the tragedy of the Hopkins family.
