Fieldwork Write-up Practice

The point of this mini fieldwork project was to use observation as the method to conduct

primary research. The requirement was to go outside of the classroom in any environment and

take observations of what is happening around in that environment. I chose to go right outside of

the classroom and into the hallway for my observations. I chose this because of time constraints,

and I did not want to go to far from the classroom. I took notes on my laptop because it is

quicker and more efficient then having to write down everything. The amount of detail that can

be gathered in a certain amount of time is greater when using a laptop versus writing things

down.

When taking observations, I saw a lady wearing red in the room across the hall on her

computer. She was Dr. K. L. Cooper. I know this because that name was on the sign outside of

the door. Another observation I made was that I could hear two other people down the hallway,

and they were having a discussion with each other. One of the guys was helping the other with a

proposal. Two more guys came into the hallway from the stairwell and went into a room down

the hall from me. They were talking about math and one of the guys was confused on a specific

concept. The walls and the floor were white, and the doors were a brownish tan color. The chairs

that sat against the wall are red and there are two water fountains to the right of me. Outside of

the window across from and I can see people walking by occasionally. I was on the third floor.

The temperature was mild, not particularly cold or hot. It was relatively quite besides the two
pairs of people talking. There are a lot of office rooms on that hallway. Possible research would

be who’s rooms they are and what happens in them.
