cost reduction, and how to align technology to
business strategy to gain a market competitive
advantage.

Future of Enterprise Architecture

This module provides the foundational


understanding of an Enterprise Architecture (EA)
plan and how that plan can be used to drive
organizational change. A successful approach
to EA aligns IT investments and resources with
current and future performance goals.

foundations, approaches, controls, governance,
assessment, architecture organization, business
models vs. operating models, analyzing impact,
and metrics.

common challenge: how to ensure the security
and resilience of your organization’s critical
services when many of the assets – technology,

an overview of the concept of resilience,
operational resilience, resilience management,
and related subjects and challenges.

Students will come away from this module with


a solid understanding of the realities of Agile
and DevOps, from tools and techniques to
culture and speci!c organizational business and
operational needs. By focusing on common
pitfalls and missteps, presenters will
help students navigate the challenging tasks of
adapting Agile and DevOps theories, practices,

Financial Management Strategies for


the CIO

Instructor: Davor Brkovich

Today’s CIO must be able to develop a budget


that aligns with the annual strategic planning
process and is supported by key organizational
stakeholders. This often needs to be developed
in environments with signi!cant third-party
managed services and where growth strategies
include regular business acquisitions and
divestitures.

This module will discuss in detail how to


properly convey the value of the CIO
organization to executive management and the
board.

Leadership and Decision Making

Instructor: David Lassman

This module focuses on improving e"ectiveness


as a manager and leader by introducing
frameworks for understanding organizations
and organizational processes. Identifying risks,

with the aftermath of a systemic failure all rely
on people. As such, an e"ective CIO should be

create a culture which helps them be better

CIO Communication Strategies

Instructor: Chris Labash

This module will discuss important guidelines


on how to build useful metrics and
communicate the e"ectiveness of the program.
Students will also learn how to establish
e"ective communication links with the C-suite
and Board, as well as with the various business
units and other stakeholders within the
organization.

Digital Transformation

Instructor: Ari Lightman

Digital Transformation (DT) deals with the


increasing levels of digital interactions, on-line
processes, platforms and applications as well as
the inundation of data in both our consumer
and professional lives.

pressures that a CIO faces when dealing with
constant change. Students will learn how to
handle traditional change control, changes to
company strategy, regulatory or industry
changes, changes due to mergers and
acquisitions, and organizational changes due to
sta" turnover.

IT Risk Management

Instructor: Ryan Smalley

This module helps students understand how to


work with the Chief Risk O#cer in assessing and
mitigating the impacts of risk involving
enterprise-wide IT strategic initiatives.

Cybersecurity for the CIO

Instructor: Gary Simms

An e"ective CIO supports good security practice


and works closely with their organization’s Chief
Information Security O#cer.

This module covers cybersecurity from the CIO’s


perspective, including cyber risk management,
controls and cyber hygiene, threats and
vulnerabilities, patch management, identity and
access management, and supply chain risk
management.

Data Management for CIOs

Instructor: David Steier

Data Management is an integral facet of the


CIO’s role in any organization.

This module will discuss how the CIO works with


the Chief Data O#cer on data management,
storage, security, and privacy.

future, providing you with continuing education after
the program ends. Approval is required.

Please note: This bene!t does not extend to future


CISO, CRO, or Digital LEEP program modules, unless
the student is also a graduate of those programs.

MSIT PROGRAM DISCOUNT

Students who complete the CIO Certi!cate Program


and who subsequently apply for and are admitted into
the Heinz College MSIT Degree Program (../information-
technology-master/index.php) are eligible for a tuition

discount scholarship. Tuition that has been paid for
completing any or all of the Heinz College Executive
Education certi!cate programs (up to $40,000) by the

In order to be considered, applicants to the MSIT


program should indicate their enrollment status with
the CIO, CISO, CRO and/or Digital LEEP certi!cate
program(s) on the Application for Admission.

Please note: The tuition discount is only available once


a student has completed all of the certi!cate program’s
requirements. Completion of a certi!cate program
