Max Services, Bangalore is the concessionaire of GPs Institute for Dangerous
Goods, Delhi. The marketing and invoicing is done by Max Services and the
training is imparted by GPs Institute for Dangerous Goods which is an IATA
and DGCA approved Institute for Dangerous Goods Training.

About GPs Institute for Dangerous Goods


The Institute is established in 1998 and one of the premier and first private DGR
institute in India. It is approved both by IATA and DGCA. The Institute has
been imparting quality training in all categories of Dangerous Goods for more
than 2 decades.

About the Instructor


The main Instructor for Categories 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 is Mr. T. Maruthi Rao
who is also the Chief Executive of Max Services, Bangalore.

The Instructor has 35 years of Operational and DGR Training Experience with
Air India. During his tenure with the airline had worked in all Operational areas
viz., Reservations, Pax Handling, Load & Trim, Ramp Handling etc. In
connection with the DGR training the Instructor had trained Cargo Acceptance
personnel, Counter personnel, Ramp Handling personnel, Cockpit and Cabin
Crew personnel, Load Planners and Load Masters for almost 02 decades.
Besides DGR training on behalf of Air India was also given to Cargo Agents
and Shippers associated with the Air India.

From August 2012, the Instructor had taken voluntary retirement and associated
with GPs Institute for Dangerous Goods and started imparting DGR Training to
all in the Aviation Industry and associated agencies.

DANGEROUG GOODS REGULATIONS – TRAINING


The main objective of Dangerous Goods Regulations training is safety. A
trained person would be able to handle the hazards / risks involved in the
carriage of dangerous goods by air and deal with them as per the Dangerous
Goods Regulations. The subject is a regulated subject and successful training in
Dangerous Goods Regulations will be a value addition to an Aviation/Logistics
course.

DURATION OF TRAINING COURSES


The subject matter relating to transport of dangerous goods with which various
categories of personnel should be familiar is indicated in the ICAO Technical
Instructions / IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Depending upon the job
functions / Category, the duration of the training is fixed to achieve and serve
the purpose of the training.

The minimum duration of the Initial (Basic) training courses In Dangerous
Goods Regulations for various categories of personnel is given below:

storage and loading of cargo or mail;
7 Operator’s and ground handling staff accepting 16 hrs – 02 Days
cargo or mail (other than dangerous goods);
8 Operator’s and ground handling agent’s staff 16 hrs – 02 Days
involved in the handling, storage and loading of
cargo or mail and baggage;
9 Passenger handling staff; 08 hrs – 01 Day
10 Flight crew members, loadmasters, load planners
and flight operations officers/flight dispatchers; 08 hrs – 01 Day
11 Crew members (other than flight crew members)
12 Security staff who deal with the screening of
passengers and their baggage and cargo or mail,
e.g. security screeners, their supervisors and staff 08 hrs – 01 Day
involved in implementing security procedures.

STANDARD OF TRAINING
The minimum educational qualifications of the participants for the dangerous
goods regulations training shall be 10+2.

The class room shall be equipped with modern teaching aids. The training will
be conducted by experienced and approved professionals. Every participant
will be provided a copy of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations which shall
be returned after the training. Each participant will be given a handout which
shall contain all the relevant Dangerous Goods Regulations extracts of Civil
Aviation Requirements and notes relevant to the course syllabus of the
respective Category. The Handout will be provided by the Institute and will be
the property of the participant.

During the training adequate number of films on Dangerous Goods will be


shown to the participants for a better understanding of the concepts.

Each training course has to be planned atleast twenty (20) days prior to the
commencement of the course.

As per the Civil Aviation Requirements to enable the instructor to give personal
attention to all the participants, the maximum number of students shall not
exceed (20) twenty.

Examination:
An examination shall be conducted at the end of the course with the following
guidelines:
➢ The participants shall have 100% attendance before he/she is allowed to
appear for the examination.

➢ Duration of the examination will be 3 hours for Categories 1 / 3 / 6.

➢ Duration of the examination will be 1hour for other Categories.

➢ The examination will be open book system; participants will be allowed


to use the current Dangerous Goods Regulations Manual and other
reference material given during the training.

➢ A participant shall score 80% marks to pass the examination. Those who
secure 90% and above will get distinction.

➢ Those who fail to secure 80% marks in the examination will not qualify.

➢ Those who fail to secure 80% marks in the examination may be allowed
to reappear in the test for the next batch.

➢ Successful participants will be issued certificates having qualified in the


training by GPs Institute for Dangerous Goods (an IATA approved
Institute).

➢ A report on the particulars of the training course shall be submitted to the


Organisations/ Institutes by GPs Institute for Dangerous Goods within
seven days of the date of examination.

➢ As per the Regulations the course is valid for a period of 24 months and
each participant has to undergo a Recurrent Training within 24 months of
the Initial Training.

After completion of this training, the candidate will be familiar with the
contents of the Dangerous Goods Regulations and will be able to deal with all
types of dangerous goods covered by the Dangerous Goods Regulations.
Specifically, he will be able to:
➢ Apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations correctly.
➢ Understand the legal aspects involved.
➢ Differentiate between shipper's and operator's responsibilities
➢ Identify dangerous goods which are:
▪ Forbidden for air transport, or
▪ Permitted as cargo under the Regulations, or
▪ Excepted from the Regulations in all or in part.
➢ Identify the nine classes of dangerous goods by their principle criteria.

➢ Read the Alphabetical List of Dangerous Goods and apply the
information it contains.
➢ Apply the general packing requirements and the specific packing
instructions or verify that they have been followed.
➢ Verify that the use of a packaging complies with the limitations of the
specification indicated on the package.
➢ Properly mark and label a dangerous goods package or verify the marking
and labelling requirements have been met.
➢ Complete a Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods or verify the
information provided on the form complies with the Regulations.
➢ Properly enter the appropriate information on the Air Waybill or verify
that the information was entered properly.
➢ Recognize and apply the appropriate State and/or Operator variations.
➢ Accept or reject a shipment correctly by use of an acceptance check list.
➢ Follow general emergency procedures when a damaged/leaking package
is discovered.
