PROBLEM 9

Methodology: The hourly NO2 and SO2 data, which are for Grand Prairie station, were downloaded
from the Alberta data warehouse website. The raw data were then analysed graphically to check whether
or not they exceed the hourly emission limits set by CAAQS and AAAQO.

Results:

Figure 1: Hourly emission of NO2 gas from Grand Prairie station

The above graph shows the hourly emission of NO2 gas from Grande Prairie station, Alberta from 18:00
01 October 2018 to 18:00 01 October 2019. As it can be observed, NO2 emissions are generally below
the standard limit, imposed by CAAQS, for an averaging period of 1 hour i.e. 0.06 ppm (equivalent to
60 ppb) and they are also below that imposed by AAAQO. However, on the 5th May 2019 at 12:00 p.m.,
the emission of NO2 surpassed the standard limit of CAAQS. On the whole of the analysis, an average
of 0.26 ppm of NO2 has been emitted from 01 October 2018 to 01 October 2019.
Figure 2: Hourly emission of SO2 gas from Grande Prairie station

As it can be observed from the above graph, the station of Grand Prairie respects the standard limit set
by CAAQS and AAAQO i.e. the hourly SO2 emissions from 01 Oct 2018 to 01 Oct 2019 do not exceed
0.07 ppm and 0.172 ppm which are limits set by CAAQS and AAAQO respectively.
