The Trainee rendered his On-the-Job Training at National Irrigation

Administration – Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA – MARIIS) located at

Ambatali Ramon, Isabela. The training started on February 19, 2019 and ended at the

fourth week of April (April 22, 2019). It lasted for a period of 9 weeks and 1 day which is

evaluated to three hundred (300) hours of training.

D. STRATEGY AND LIMITATION OF THE TRAINING

The training we had is lesson/theory based with actual presentation in the Power

Plant operations. This training enables us to discover more of the machines and the

importance of it. Second, this training helps us to be more aware of the work and safety.

We rendered 300 hours in our training.

There are machines that we saw in the Plant that we’re able to study and

familiarize with.

More often, we read manuals on how the Power Plants work.

A. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The construction of the Magat Dam and appurtenant structures was authorized

by P.D 693 signed on May 7, 1975 by the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The

Dam was constructed in 1978 and was inaugurated by President Marcos on October

27, 1982. It started Operations in 1983. The project was implemented based on the

preliminary study conducted in 1973 by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)

with the assistance of the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and the

United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Subsequent detailed

and extensive dam site investigation and engineering studies further confirmed the

feasibility of what is now known as NIA’s most daring infrastructure project and one

of Asia’s biggest dams today. The dam is part of the Magat River Multipurpose

Project (MRMP) which aimed to improve the existing Magat River Irrigation System

(MARIS) and the Siffu River Irrigation System (SIFFRIS) and increase the

production of rice in the Cagayan River basin.

hydro-electric power plants – the 360 MW Magat Hydro Electric Power Plant and the

6 MW Baligatan Hydro Electric Power Plant. Along the MARIIS Main Canal are 2.5

MW mini-hydro-electric power plants owned and operated by the Isabela Electric

Cooperative (ISELCO).
