Taiga

Nick Caleca
What is a Taiga

The taiga is a forest in the cold, subarctic region. The subarctic is an area in the
Northern Hemisphere that lies just south of the Arctic Circle. Places like Alaska,
Canada, Scandinavia, and Siberia have taigas.
Abiotic features

Abiotic means that something is not living. Some abiotic things in a taiga are
the temperature, sunlight, soil, air, water, and the snow.
Biotic Factors

Biotic factors are anything that is living, like animals and plants. Some biotic
things in the taiga are beavers, hares, a few different types of bears, foxes, and
wolves. There is also trees like pine, spruce and fir.
Producers in the Taiga

Producers are any kind of plant. They are producers because they can make
their own food. Some producers in the taiga are ferns, moss, jack pines, black
spruce, white spruce and balsam fir.
Consumers in the Taiga

Primary consumers- Squirrel, white winged crossbill, red crossbill, snowshoe

rabbit, moose , and caribou.

Secondary consumers- Red fox and Black bear

Tertiary consumers- Bobcat, Grey wolf and Lynx

Key Organisms in the Taiga

Without either of the producers the rest of the food web would die out. First the
birds, rabbits and caribou would go. Then the bear and fox would not have food
and after that the lynx, wolf and bobcat wont have any food. So without the
producers the ecosystem will die.
Predator/Prey Relationships

1. Predator-grey wolf 1.Predator-Black bear

2. Prey- Moose 2. Prey- Caribou

3.Predator- Bobcat 3.Red fox

4 .Predator- Lynx 4.Snowshoe rabbit

Simbiosis in the taiga

Grizzly bears share a symbiotic relationship with many plants. They eat the
berries produced by the plants. They help the plants by spreading the seeds
around.
Endangered animal

The Siberian tiger is an endangered species because of poaching and habitat

loss from deforestation. There is 480 to 540 Siberian tigers in the wild.
Human activities

The biggest impact people have on taigas is deforestation.

Predictions of what could happen

I think that eventually a lot of the trees will be cut down there and some animals
could become endangered because of it.
Reasons to visit the taiga

In the taiga you can go dog-sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

It's one of the only places on earth where you can see the Northern Lights.
