The Mayan
geographic
The mayan culture extends over an
area of more than 350.000 km than
includes a large part of Mexican
southeast , the states of Yucatan ,
Campeche , Quintana roo and portiens
of chipas antabasco, and the north-
western borden from Honduras

The continent is north-

america{mexico}.

The mayans lived in a civilization that

developed a culture that trived in what
is now Guatemala , belice , part of
mexico , Honduras, and el Salvador .

While the Europeans lived in a time of

penumbra , the mayans survived six
times as long empire and built more
cities than the ancient .
Traditions of the
Mayan culture

The Mayans were one of the

most important civilizations
not only of Mexico but of the
American continent
(Mesoamerica) They had a
series of customs and
traditions such as the
following:
Esthetic:
For the Maya the idea of
beauty was to have a straight-
sided skull, which is why
when the baby was born, a
board was placed on the
forehead with the aim of
achieving a straightness in the
forehead.
For this another
custom was the
deviation of the eyes
culture, if a child
suffered from
strabismus, it was a
sign of beauty and
distinction, but if their
eyesight was normal,
something would be
placed between their
eyes, in order to divert
their eyes.
A Mayan custom that
is present today is the
perforation in one of
the nostrils where a
kind of ring made of
jade was placed.
Currently it is what we
know as piercing
Religion

To create man, so they

used to make offerings of
blood. For this reason
sacrifices were made as a
ritual l to return the blood
to the gods.

The Mayans worshiped

gods of nature.
They thought that the
Gods had given their blood
Ball game

Also called "Pok to Pok",

for the sound that
produced the ball. This
game was considered
divine, where the main
objective was to dunk the
ball in some rings. the
winning team represents
the light over the darkness,
the losing team was
sacrificed and offered to
the gods
The
science,math
and astromy
One of the legacy of the
culture maya are the
astromy , science and math
which would allow them to
make their calendar. In
sculpted stelae, in
beautifully painted murals,
in beautifully decorated
altars, in the codices, in
their harmonious
constructions, in the ball
courts and in the doors and
lintels, the cultural legacy
of the Mayan civilization is
projected, which led to
perfection astronomy,
writing and numerical
notations.
The ceramic
Maya pottery had a different
functionality, being especially
those dedicated to everday life
(glasses, plates, different types
of vessels)
and to religious celebrations,
whose representations needed
numerous objects for worship.
In the majority of the cases, the
ceramics also added an
important decoration, rich in
zoomorphic figures and
geometric drawings. The
recurring themes of its
decorations also include scenes
of daily life and the functions of
the ruling caste, especially
noblemen, soldiers and priests.
The
architecture
The ruins of architectural
constructions reveal that
this art has experienced a
period of great splendor.
Ruined palaces, pyramids,
temples, ball games
,astronomical
observatories, entrance
doors, elevated platforms
and ceremonial centers,
are some of the buildings
of the Mayan people, apart
from those that still remain
hidden in the jungles, that
eloquently testify to an
extraordinary past.
