3. All components required for completion of any assembly must be shipped together in
the same package/crate by the supplier. Partial component shipment of an assembly
shall not be acceptable; however, partial shipment of completed assemblies, of a
large order, is acceptable and encouraged.
4. Where practical, material shall be palletized with a gross weight not to exceed 1
tonne.
5. For inland shipping and storage, adequate packaging shall be provided for protection
against the elements.
6. Where supplier has not adhered to specific instruction pertaining to assembly,
tagging and/or boxing of these support elements, supplier shall accept all liability
and financial burdens as may be accrued by the buyer. Documentation shall
accompany all charges to supplier's account.
1.6 Guarantee
The supplier shall provide warranty and guarantee for all items within supplier's scope of supply in
accordance with buyer's terms and conditions of purchase.
2.0 PRODUCTS
2.1 Materials
A. Selection of material for the support and its components shall be governed by the design
temperature of the line and the applicable codes listed in Section 1.2 of this specification
unless specific materials are indicated on the specification drawing and the fabrication
and installation drawing.
B. Alloy pipe clamps shall be used for lines operating above 399 degrees C (750 degrees F)
and below minus 29 degrees C (minus 20 degrees F).
C. All contact areas shall be designed or arranged so that there is no electrolysis or galvanic
action.
D. All clamp halves shall be formed from continuous plate.
2.2 Design Criteria
A. Allowable Stress
1. Stress on all components shall be within the limits set by applicable codes listed in
Section 1.2 of this specification.
2. Sufficient surface shall be supplied on beam connections so that the welds prescribed
on the specification drawings can be achieved in accordance with the applicable
codes listed in Section 1.2.
3. In the event that there is a conflict between codes and specifications, the more
conservative stresses shall be used for design.
4. Design calculations demonstrating compliance to stress limitations on fabricated
assemblies shall be made available for review on request. Appropriate stress
intensities and the basis for using particular intensities shall be part of the
calculation.

Revision 1
1. Maximum deviation from spring constant rate of change for variable spring hangers,
as published in supplier's catalog, must not exceed 10 percent on either the heavy or
the light side.
2. Variable and constant spring hangers shall be calibrated, tested, and preset so that the
marked operating load is within 2 percent of the load shown on the hanger drawing
after the prescribed movement.
3. Constant support hangers must have a field load adjustment of at least 10 percent on
either side of the operating hot load.
4. Hanger assemblies shall be capable of deflecting 4 degrees minimum from vertical
position between pivot points with no appreciable effect on the operational function
of the assembly.
5. Travel stops shall be supplied with each spring hanger assembly. The travel stops
presetting the spring at the installation load shall restrict both upward and downward
movement; however, the travel stops shall not restrict the adjustment of the spring
assembly while the stops are in place. These stops are to have a red warning tag.
This tag shall have a warning note in Arabic and English, as taken from the
specification drawing, indicating when the stops are to be removed.
6. Travel stops must be securely linked to the spring housing when they are not in use.
Attachments must be designed so that the stops are not easily discarded. A light
chain welded to the hanger housing and travel stop is recommended. Securing stops
with a wire is not permissible.
7. Where the spring housing or components of the assembly are not capable of
supporting the hydrotest loads, a hanger rod must be supplied and shipped with the
assembly and clearly marked in Arabic and English, "For Use During Hydrotest
Only."
8. Buyer must receive formal notification of each spring hanger assembly not capable
of sustaining the hydrotest load. These spring hanger assemblies must be tagged in
Arabic and English, "Remove This Assembly During Hydrotest."
9. Spring housing shall have a minimum thickness of the following:
Nominal Housing O.D. Thickness
DN 80 (NPS 3) 3.0 mm (1/8")
DN 100 – 200 (NPS 4 - 8) 4.5 mm (3/16")
DN 250 – 300 (NPS 10 – 12) 6.5 mm (1/4")
10. Beams supplied by the supplier of the spring hanger assemblies shall be designed so
that there is a maximum of 1.6 mm (1/16 of an inch) deflection for the maximum
load indicated on the specification drawing.
11. Spring hanger assemblies and engineered rod hangers do not include weights of riser
clamps, spring housing, rods, pipe clamps, or connecting beams in the design loads
shown on the specification drawings. Supplier shall adjust calculated loads to
accommodate this additional weight. This new calculated load shall be indicated on
the supplier's bill of materials.
12. Base type springs shall be furnished with a load flange.

Revision 1
13. Components must be compatible for assembly and erection without field
modifications. Modifications required in the field due to noncompliance for correct
fit-up shall be grounds for back charges.
14. Where bands are used to retain travel stops, the band shall be made of steel and
located in a position that does not obscure the load markers.
15. Lugs or brackets used to support the hanger must be oriented to allow proper
positioning of the spring scale as noted on the specification drawing.
16. Lifting lugs must be supplied for each spring hanger weighing over 45 kg (100
pounds).
C. Welding
1. All components, with the exception of the spring coil, alloy, stainless steel, or
aluminum parts, shall be galvanized or painted in accordance with Mechanical
Engineering Specification MQ-SP-M-4088: Galvanizing or MQ-SP-M-4039:
Painting as indicated on attachment 03.
2. Galvanized spring hanger housings shall not be welded after the coil has been
installed. Retainers for the coil shall be of a bolted or split ring type construction to
avoid burning the housing.
3. Spring coils shall be neoprene coated with a thickness of 0.15 mm (6 mils).
E. Dimensions
A. Identification
Each assembly shall be packaged as a unit and identified with its own tag assembly
number as shown on its specification drawing and/or fabrication and installation drawing.
B. Tagging
1. Tags shall be stainless steel, brass, or aluminum having a minimum thickness of 0.4
mm (28 gage) and shall be securely attached to each item, with the exception of
spring hangers, with a corrosion resistant wire. The wire shall be minimum 1.5 mm
(16 gage). All lettering shall be a minimum of 4 mm (3/16 of an inch) high in Arabic
and English, in a color to contrast the tag.

2. Items which cannot be tagged by the above method, such as pipe shoes and guides,
must be marked on the surface of the item in such a way that field painting shall not
cause the markings to be obscured or obliterated.
3. Spring hangers shall have a corrosion resistant metallic nameplate tag having a
minimum thickness of 0.4 mm (28 gage), permanently attached to spring housing by
means of 4 stainless steel fasteners. All lettering shall be a minimum of 5 mm (3/16
of an inch) high in Arabic and English, in a color to contrast the tag. This tag shall
contain but not be limited to the following data:
3.0 EXECUTION
3.1 Inspection

respective contract drawing and this specification.
B. Verify that all contact surfaces and all piping support elements and assemblies are free of
all foreign matter prior to installation.
C. Check the alignment of all piping support elements and assemblies prior to making any
permanent attachments to any piping or structures.
A. Location
Piping support elements and assemblies shall be installed at the locations shown on the
contract drawings.
B. Procedure
Piping support elements and assemblies upon completion of installation shall be inspected for
proper location and alignment, hot and cold load settings, quality of installation, cleanliness, and
