Analysis

Veronika decides to die of Paulo Coelho talks about how, why and so much

things about Veronika decisions in committing suicide but the good thing about the

book it didn’t focus on Veronika only. Along the way different characters will be

encountered that other spice to the story. The realization of each characters in the

book about the importance of living will be and can be realization also of the readers.

The book may seem like theres not plot and more on dialogues but it is

actually i think the technique of the Author. It may seem dull in the middle of the

book but it gives us ending worth reading.

The book is not as informative as it is but it can encourage a person reading to

reflect on everything about his/her life. Weigh his/her decision in life circumstances

and the true meaning of live will be depends on ourselves alone.

 Conclusion

This book represent our understanding about life. How Veronika decides to

die and how she realized what life really is. We as a youth can relate on how she

views life before and how we can finally change our view about it.

It tackles some mental illnesses also that will determine how lucky we are for

having support system and to understand more different cases of people.

This book can help those people who’s facing depression as this book is very

refreshing. I really want to read it once more but there are some deep words used on

it.
 Introduction

Veronika Decides to die is a novel by Paulo Coelho, published on May 08,

2001 by the Harper Collins. one of the bestdelling and most influential authors in the

world. The Alchemist, The Pilrimage, The Valkyries, Brida, Eleven minutes, The

Zahir, The Witch of Portobello, The winner Stands Alone, Aleph, Manuscript Found

in Accra, And adultery, among others, have sold over 360 weeks.

This is includes this novel Veronika decides to die, It tells the story of

Twenty-four-year old Slovenian Veronika, who appears to have everything in life

going for her, but who decides to killherself.

This book is partly based on Coelho’s experience in various mental

institutions, and deals with the subject of madness.

 Summary

Veronika a twenty-four-year-old, Slovenian woman, She has beauty,

boyfriend, fulfilling job and a loving family. But she feels something missing in her

life. On November 11, 1997 Veronika decided to kill herself, She have two reasons

why she want to kill herself (1) Everything in her life was the same and. Once in her

youth was gone, it would be downhill all the way, with all age beginning to leave

irreversible marks, the onset of illness, the departure of friends.She would gain

nothing by continuing to live; indeed, the likelihood of suffering would only increase.

(2) She was aware of what was going on in the world. Everything was wong, and she

had no way putting things right that gave her a sense of complete powerlessness.

She picked up the four packs of sleeping pills and she took it one by

one, but she failed on her suicide attempt. She woke up in a lunatic asylum a local

mental hospital called Villete. Doctor Igor asked her a lot of things about in her life,

that she could possibly remember, some of them she did, but the almost she failed,

Then Doctor Igor told to her that she has damage in her heart, and she only have a few

days to live and anytime she will die. Veronika was disappointed when Doctor Igor

said it to her.

She met mari one of the patient in Villete, A mother and a successful lawyer.

Doctor Igor told to her she could back home, But she wanted to stay in Villete, but

Mari lied that her symptoms returned again.

Eduard is the another patient in VIllete who has a schizophrenia ( is a chronic

and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. ) His

father wants to follow his footstep, When Eduard was an accident he develope his

ambition to paint but his father strongly disapproved.

 After a while Doctor Igor convincing Veronika to go back home and to talk

her parents. However, Declined to do it. But meanwhile Veronika decided to talk her

parents and she told that she will stay in VIllete.

After that happening Veronika get a lot of tear in her eyes. That provoked her

to took a sleeping pills again but it was interrupted to happening again by one of the

nurse in Villete.

One night with a bad weather, Veronika finds herself playing piano again and

Eduard saw her in the room while playing the piano that attaracts him a lot.

Before the day that Mari will leave Villete, She saw Eduard and Veronika in

room where in Veronika playing piano. In that day Veronika confess her feeling to

Eduard but Eduard left the room. In that happening Veronika got hurt so much, So she

talked Doctor Igor she want to leave.

On the last treatment of Eduard , Got wild and don’t want to undergo

treatment, Veonika came to make him comfortable and undergo with the

treatment.

Veronika talked to Doctor Igor, Veronika said she find herself again.

In that day Veronika and Eduard decided to leave in villete because Veronika

wants to see Ljubljana castle, the city, and to feel the sand of beach again with

the one who really love.
