Project activities will support the possibility of connecting university with both Serbian

recycling and building materials cluster throughout exchanging of ideas and experiences on
using recycled and renewable constituents to obtain greener concrete materials. The relevance of
this topic and key motivation for gathering the research team is characterized by fact of a
booming construction market in Serbia and other transitional countries as well.

Following available literature one can concludes:

- several possible solutions have been already proposed to improve both environmental
performance and sustainability of concrete production in building industry,
- further research efforts are still needed to address various issues related to the actual
potential of recycled materials to be employed as constituents in the production of
various forms of concrete.

Proposed project will focus on experimental and theoretical investigating the physical and
mechanical behavior of lightweight green concrete made with aggregates based on recycled
materials and fly ash as a cement replacements;

In order to achieve main project objectives three main research activities are proposed:
- Experimental Work, oriented at building up a shared database of test results obtained during the
project development or collected from scientific works available in the technical literature;
- Theoretical Modeling, aimed at formulating and calibrating general and accurate models which
are able to simulate the thermo-mechanical behavior of the new green materials taking into
account the specific features deriving by employing the recycled constituents;
- Proposal of Design Guidelines, aimed at collecting and organizing the knowledge achieved
experimental and theoretical modeling to formulate a “model code” for describing production
protocols of recycled constituents and design-oriented rules for employing green concrete made
of such constituents in various applications.
