REPORT

Practice is one of the keys to success. Practice is an important tool to being

successful and it helps one’s goal come true. Practice is indispensable. Only by
practicing one can finally succeed in making a good translation. This practice was an
opportunity not only to portray my skills in the field of medicine and medical
terminology, but also to develop and to assess them. I learned to insist on the quality
of translation but, nevertheless, to make it quicker, to get to the core of the text and to
understand it.

Since 2010, the Translation Agency "LEGISDOCS", has been successfully

providing individuals and legal entities with the translation of numerous document.
Throughout my specialized internship of Translation I was activating at the
Department of Translation, dealing with documents.

The Department of Translation has the following main functions:

 to translate various documents and texts from Romanian into English and from
English into Romanian;
 to process personal and commercial documents;
 to process notarial services;
 to offer legal advice to their personal clients.

Practical work has been an integral part of Education process. The role of
internship is to familiarize students with principles and ways of working in
institutions. I combined the educational and professional spheres. Through a serious
of activities that the program of internship requires, we have completed the necessary
steps to achieve the high degree of professionalism provided by this program,

The objectives of this practice were the following:

 to improve my translation skills;
 to acquire useful material for my license project;
 to master skills in translation of different types of documents;
 to get used to the professional environment of a translator;
 to read written material into specified languages reports, and rewrite;
 to operate with terms from various fields;
 to distinguish the domain that the text belongs to by the help terminology;
 to determine the level of conplexity of a text ;
 to identify and resolve conflicts related to the meaning of words, conce
practices to proofread, edit and revise translated materials;
 to check translations of terms and terminology to ensure that they are and
remain consistent.

I realized that it is' not enough to have a superficial acquaintance in order to be

able to translate it. One must have profound knowledge or languages (the Source
Language and the Target one) and the ability to deal semantic differences. I focused
my translation activities on highly specific learning aims, such as practice of certain
vocabulary, grammar points, styles and registers, etc. It also lends itself well to work
with other tools such as e-mail and web pages.

After my activity as a translator, I earned some abilities:

- Making right decisions in order to perform a qualitative written translation of the
documents that were given to me (for example Lexical-semantic problems can be
resolved by consulting dictionaries, glossaries and experts. These problems include
terminology alternatives, neologisms, semantic gaps, contextual synonyms and
antonyms);
- The ability to respect the terms of time. I did my best to finish my work in time that
I've been asked for.
- Reading of written materials, such as legal documents, scientific works or news
reports, and rewrites material into specified languages;
- Solving the grammatical problems that include, for example, questions of
temporality, aspectuality (the appearance indicates how the process is represented or
the state expressed by the verb from the point of view of its development, as opposed
to time itself), pronouns, and whether to make explicit the subject pronoun or not;
- The ability to check translations of terms and terminology to ensure that they are
accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions

The objectives of my internship of translation:

 to get familiar with ways of working in institutions;
 to master my translation skills;
 to translate various types of texts and documents from English into Romanian
and vice versa;
 to enrich my vocabulary with new words , from different scientific fields;
 to comprehend how to work in a team with other members.

As a result of this activity I have learnt how to:

 to translate various kinds of texts from a lot of fields, but to maintain the
message content, context, and style as much as possible;
 to carry out translation tasks of a translator, such as website, localization and
translation tools;
 to make appropriate use of new information technologies and translation tools;
 to use different kinds of references properly(dictionaries, parallel texts, online
information sources etc.);
 to identify problems related to the meaning of words and find ways of solving
them.
 to adapt quickly to new tasks and new fields;
 to follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information;

Problems in translation practice

 During my translation internship I met some problem. For example, I translated
different documents with a specialized terminology, and I had some difficulties so as
all the documents that I translated had terms that I had to search in dictionaries or ask
for supervisor’s help.
One of the problems I encountered during this practice of translation was the legal
problem, which is a common phenomenon in legal translations. Legal issues can arise
from the differences between legal references, such as the name of institutions, law
and procedures, in general. The translator will use the localization of the language to
correctly adapt the translation in the targeted domain.
Another problem was that the file types are not always the same. Translators prefer
to work with editable files because rebuilding files such as PDFS or protected files
takes time. Customers often do not realize this or do not have editable versions of
what needs to be translated, so some projects take longer. Being able to overwrite
files saves time, saves data and can be accessed through computer-assisted translation
tools.
Another difficulty not less important was the need to put each comma in its proper
place. Sometimes, the construction of source phrases and target languages are
different. So the first thing to do was translating the words, and then creates a correct
structure of the sentence or the whole paragraph.

Conclusion:
To sum up, this Translation Practice had a beneficial influence on development as
a future translator. Like writing, translating demands a great deal of creativity. A
hierarchical sense of the relation between two or more languages can be problematic,
but with the kind of close attention and care a translator can bring a perfect
translation. A good translator always find a way, rather than narratively inventive-the
joy of finding words that convey what was written in the original and sit pleasingly
side by side. Evidently, this process takes years of experience but once it is mastered,
it can be most exciting for a translator. This internship is one of the paths that would
help me to acquire the role of a translator. More than this, it was a new opportunity to
show, to develop and to evaluate my skills that I got at ULIM as a translator. It was a
good opportunity to manifest myself in a professional way. I am sure that this
experience is an advantage that will influence positively my future career.
