Most of first generation and low-income students struggle to survive the transition from home

to college. This is because their experiences, culture and social class backgrounds often leave

them confused about the middle-class cultural norms that define university life. These

students often feel psychological distress, social exclusion, and academic anxiety even though

they have finally achieved what is supposed to be the golden gateway to a successful life.

Today most colleges have bridge programs that address generation student “needs” generally

by focusing on ways to fix academic defects and financial shortfalls.

A small rural town in the Midwest would likely envelop farmers with not very many

profoundly concentrated employments. The town may just have one specialist and one legal

counselor. They would be certainly restricted instructive open doors since adolescents will be

relied upon to help keep up the family arrive. Thus those with the most influence in a little

provincial town will likewise hold the most riches.

The most conducive social class to adapt to this kind of environmental context would be the

middle-class, they are able to balance well both culturally and behavioral. People who come

from a lower-class background have to depend more on other people. If you don’t have

resources and education, you really adapt to the environment, which is more threatening, by

turning to other people.

Upper-class people are different. What wealth and education and prestige and a higher

station in life gives you is the freedom to focus on the self. In psychology experiments,

wealthier people don’t read other people’s emotions as well. They hoard resources and are

less generous than they could be.

In my experience as a middle-class person, working with people and adapting to both

challenging environments has been easy. The fact that I am open to all kinds of people has

helped me and shaped my thoughts and perspective about others and life.
