Guidance Work Sample:

My work sample for Guidance is the rules chart I made in my Guiding Children’s behavior class. It
fits this category because when I am trying to help guide a child, I find it much easier to be on the same
page, and having these rules assures that when a child sees the rules chart says walking feet they know
to walk. These are some important safety rules that could help not only at school but at home or when
the kids are at home or in public with their families. I will keep using this as I continue my education
and work in childcare because it helps cover the basics while still being eye appealing. I chose it as the
best example of my work because a child’s safety is so important. I know that children do not
remember everything, but having rules hung in the classroom helps to be able to take them over to
remind the, of one they may have forgotten. I learned about how important it is to take a step back and
take a breather for yourself as a teacher. Guidance only works well when you as the teacher are calm,
patient, and understanding of the child as well as the situation they are in. Even the littlest things that
some people may not think are a part of guiding, such as a simple song, can do wonders in a preschool
classroom. You also have to think of interests of the children. I noticed that when it is something they
are interested in the outcome is greater. My work sample shows my understanding of how it is
possible to guide children while creating a sense of self-discipline in a child by allowing them to
explore guiding options themselves and only intervening when it is necessary for me to.
