Science and Math Camp 2019


THEME: “Science and Math for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable
Development”

Goals and Objectives:


The SciMath Camp will be held through the efforts of the SMC
ORGANIZATION and BANBAN NHS Faculty to:
a) Enhance learning through application to real-life situations;
b) Improve Leadership and social Skills;
c) Improve communication and problem solving skills and environmental awareness;
d) Increase performance level of Students;
e) Improves Students’ Competencies.

SciMath Camp General Information:


The SciMAth Camp will be held on December 5-6, 2019.

B. Requirements and Camp Fees


1. Registration Fee – 50.00 and is of voluntary basis and not compulsory.
2. Parents Permit- NO PERMIT , NO CAMP.
C. Camp Rules and Guidelines
1. All campers are expected to be at the campsite at all times. Permission to go
outside the campsite must be given only by the Team Adviser or Facilitators;
otherwise a demerit of 5 points will be given as a sanction.
2. Boys are not allowed to go outside the girls’ room at all times as well as with the
girls. If there’s a need to talk or meet, it must take place outside the room
otherwise a demerit of 5 points will be given as asanction.
3. Cleanliness and Orderliness must be observed at all times. Dispose and segregate
wastes and garbage properly and accordingly. Littering is an act of crime.
4. Smoking, gambling (all sorts and form), drinking of alcoholic beverages, dating
and act of Public display of Affection and/ or scandalous behavior are strictly
prohibited; otherwise, campers who are caught/ reported will be taken out of the
camp site at any time and be brought to their respective homes.
5. Shouting, acting violently, or campers with demeaning behaviors are strictly
discouraged at ALL TIMES. BANBAN NHS STUDENTS are disciplined enough
to be responsible and be accountable with their action.
6. Participants of the different contested activities must adhere to the schedule and
guidelines.
7. Merit ( 5 points) shall be given to campers/ team who display exemplary behavior
and a Demerit (5 points) for campers of teams who display bad demeanor and for
not abiding camp Rules and Guidelines.

E. Different Activities’ Guidelines and Mechanics :

Rubik’s Cube Arranging

Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who
are presently enrolled in Science and Math subject.
 The contest is open for 12 participants.
 The group of the SciMath Festival must have at-least 1 representative.
 Each group will be given 2 participants as maximum in the said
competition.
 Each participant must bring one Rubik’s cube.
 There will be 5 patterns to arrange.
 The following points are to be given in each pattern:
- 1st Pattern- 1 point
- 2nd Pattern – 2 points
- 3rd Pattern – 3 points
- 4th Pattern –4 points
- 5th Pattern – 5 points
 In regards with the group pointing system, each participant is given 5 points
automatically.
 In case of a tie, they will be given a pattern to arrange.
 The champion, the first runner up and second runner up will be given
additional 4, 3, 2 points respectively.
The first 3 fastest who can arrange the Rubik’s cube will be declared as the
champion, first place, and second placer.
Mathinik
Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who
are presently enrolled in Science and Math subject.
 The contest has 30 maximum participants.
 Each team must provide 5 members.
 Each participant must provide 1/8 illustration board and eraser or white
board and marker.
 The contest is all about adding and subtracting numbers and combination.
 The contest will have 3 rounds the easy, average, and difficult round.
 There will be elimination in every round.
 The first group who will be eliminated will have additional points of 2, the
second group will have 3, and the champion will receive 5 points.
 If there are ties, a clinch round will be serving.
 The winners will be awarded as champion, first place, and second place.

Naming the Elements:
Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who are
presently enrolled in the Science and Math subject.
 Each team must provide 5 contestants.
 The contest will be done individually.
 Each participant must provide 1/8 illustration board or white board with marker.
 The participants will identify the name, the symbol or the atomic number of the
element.
 The periodic table to be use in the contest proper will be the latest and the old
version.
 The contest will have 3 rounds, the easy, the average, and difficult round.
 In every round there is an equivalent point 1 for easy, 2 for average, and 3 for
difficult round.
 The first 3 winners will be declared as the champion, first runner-up, and second
runner-up.
Egg Parachute:
Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who are
presently enrolled in the Science and Math subject.
 Each team must have 10 participants.
 Each participant must provide paraphernalia like thread/yarn, tape, plastic wrap
(supot) and egg.
 Each participant must put the egg inside the ice bag.
 The participant will release the egg parachute in each level (2nd Floor, 3rd Floor, 4th
Floor).
 The participant with broken egg cannot proceed to the next level.
 If there are more than 5 participants who reach the level four will be given 3 times to
release their egg parachute.
Quiz Bee:
Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who are
presently enrolled in the Science and Math subject.
 Each team must provide 1 group 6 members from Grade 7-12.
 Each team must provide 1/8 illustration board and eraser or white board and marker.
 The questions for the quiz bee will come from the teachers of science and math.
 The coverage of the quiz bee will be general science and general math.
 The contest will have 3 parts Easy (15 items), Average (15 items), and Difficult (10
items).
 The easy will have multiple choice type, the average will be a combination of
multiple choice and identification, and the difficult round will be pure identification.
 The pointing system for each round will be 1, 2, 3 respectively.
 There will be no elimination in each group.
 The group who has the highest accumulated points will be declared as the champion.
Math Relay:
Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who are
presently enrolled in the Science and Math subject.
 Each team must provide 1 group 6 members from Grade 7-12
 Each group must provide 1/8 illustration board and eraser or white board or marker.
 The pictures will be flash in the screen.
 The pictures will be base from general science and general math.
 The contest will have 3 rounds the easy, the average, and the difficult.
 Every point will be equivalent to 1 for easy, 2 for average, and 3 for difficult.
 There will be no elimination round.
 The group with the highest accumulated points will be declared as the champion.
If there is a tie a clinch round will be serving.

CHEERS AND YELLS EXHIBITION:


Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who are
presently enrolled in the Science and Math subject.
 Each team must provide a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 members from
Grade 7-12.
 The maximum length of the performance is three (3) minutes and a maximum of five
(5) minutes.
 Recycled props are allowed.
 Ranking System shall be used in determining the winner.
 The winners will be awarded as champion, first place, and second place.
Criteria:
Choreography (creativity, style and originality) = 40 %
Execution (timing, coordination and projection) = 30 %
Relevance to the Theme = 20%
Overall Performance and Impact = 10%

SCI-JAZZ CHANT:
Guidelines and Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School who are
presently enrolled in the Science and Math subject.
 Each team must provide a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 members from
Grade 7-12.
 The maximum length of the performance is three (3) minutes and a maximum of five
(5) minutes.
 Each group shall create their own piece with the theme
 Costumes and props are allowed.
 Ranking System shall be used in determining the winner.
 The winners will be awarded as champion, first place, and second place.
 The winners will receive tokens and certificates.
Criteria:
40% - Delivery
40% - Stress and Rhythm
10 % - Costume
10% - Overall Performance and Impact

BANNER MAKING:
Mechanics:
 Each team must have 5 participants.
 Each Team will be provided Coco Cloth.
 Each participant must provide the following:
1. Paint
2. Permanent Marker
3. Pencil
4. Ruler
5. Brush
 Banners should not have any pieces or materials that can easily fall off or be damaged
when they are being hung.
 Banners will be judged based on the following criteria:
a.  Originality/Creativity 25%
b.  Relevance to the Theme 40%
c.  Neatness 35%

GO Car:
Mechanics:
 The contest is open for all students of Banban National High School.
 Each team must provide 2 groups with 3 members each.
 The members should come from 3 different year levels.
 Each group should make a racing car using 1.5 litre plastic bottles.
 The wheels of the car must be bottle cups any size.
 The participants are allowed to make any design of the car.
 Battery operated cars will be disqualified.
 Only fan or blowing using the mouth is allowed to be use in moving the car.
 The first 3 cars to reach the finish line will be declared as the Champion, First
runner-up and second runner-up.

ECO-Fashion Show Guidelines


The design must be your own! This is your chance to be creative and show off your talents,
embrace it! *Don’t just make a trash bag dress!!! That isn’t creative enough! 

 Materials used in the construction of garments MUST be recyclable.


 Designers may use materials for construction such as glue, tape, dyes, marker,
staples, thread, zippers, elastic, wire, string, Velcro, boning, buckram, grommets,
laces, starch, paint, etc.
 Recycled fabric may only be used as a lining that doesn’t show. The usage of new
material should not overpower your total garment.
 Garments must be constructed well enough to fit the model and hold together for the
stage show. (Contestants are strongly encouraged to wear comfortable clothes
underneath recycled garment).
 Originality and creativity are encouraged.
 Recycled fashions must be made of at least 75% recycled or reused materials that
otherwise would be thrown away or recycled.
 Please make sure that materials used in fashion pieces are safe to yourself and the
public.
