Requests should be presented to the PTC in a manner in which they may be answered in a yes or no fashion, The Committee reserves the right to reconsider any interpretation when or if addtional information which might affect it becomes available to the PTC. Website: wwww.u.com UL 1100 Alcohol and Kerosene Cooking Appliances for Marine Use 30.4 DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this standard the following definitions apply 30.4.1 Externally Mounted LPG Gril - an appliance designed for outdoor cooking fueled by LPG that Is mounted above the deck or over the side of the boat 30.4.2 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) - products predominately composed of any of the following hydrocarbons: Propane, propylene, butanes (le., normal butane or isobutane), butylenes, or a mixture thereof with physical properties as listed in the APPENDIX. LPG is heavier than air and will tend to sink if released into cabin space (see APPENDIX) © 2018 American Boat & Yacht Council, Inc 1 30 78 305 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 30.5.1 The appliance shall be tested in accordance with temperature test section 18 of UL 1100 Alcohol and kerosene Cooking Appliances for Marine Use to determine that the temperature of the surface below and immediately surrounding the appliance does not rise more than 150°F (66°C) above the compartment’s ambient temperature, EXCEPTION: Extemally mounted grils NOTE: The above referenced test applies to all stoves, 30.5.2 Cooking appliances shall meet the combustion requirements of ANSI Z21.57 Recreational Vehicle Cooking Gas Appliances. 30.5.3 Each cooking appliance shal be permanently marked or labeled with the folowing information: 30.5.3.1 manufacturer's name or trademark, 30.5.32 manufacturers or prime seller's address, 30.5.3 model number, 30.5.34 serial number or coded month and year of manufacture, and 30.5.35 fuel type used 30.5.4 Printed instructions shall be provided with each cooking appliance and shal include information on 30.5.4.1 proper instalation, 30.5.4.2 location for use and storage (see A-30.5.7, 30.543 operation, 305.44 refueling 30.5.4.5 maintenance, and 30.546 _ storage of reserve cylinders, including that they shall only be stored on the boat exterior, protected from the weather and mechanical damage, and where escaping vapors can only low overboard. 30.5.5 Fuel canisters with eight ounces maximum capacity shall be DOT approved 2P/20 containers wit rim vent release (RVR), 30.5.6 Appliances intended for use or stored in the accommodation area shall have no more than eight ounces (227 g) of attached fuel capacity, and 30.5.8.1 only one cylinder may be in use. 30.5.7 Cooking appliances in use shall have a positive means of mechanical retention. 3057.1 Cooking appliances in use shall be secured in a location designated by the boat and appliance manufacturer 30.5.7.2 The cooking appliance and its cylinder installation shall be designed to ensure that only fuel vapor reaches the burner and shall be capable of normal operation when inclined at angles up to 30° from the horizontal, in any direction, sustained at the maximum angle for at least 15 sec. 30.57.21 Extinguishment of the flame or leakage of liquid fuel shall constitute failure to meet this requirement, NOTE: The purpose of this testis to ensure only vapor reaches the appliance and not liquid fuel. © 2018 American Boat & Yacht Council, Ine 2 A30 718 30.5.8 Burner controls shall be equipped or designed to require a push-tum or other two-step operation when going from the “off to “on” positon, 30.5.9 Appliance operating controls shall be located to be easlly accessible, and to minimize possible injury trom bbumers or elements when being used. 30.5.10 As installed, means shall be provided to prevent both deep and shallow cooking utensils from sliding off the Cooking appliance at boat pitch or roll angles up to 30° from the horizontal, in any direction. 30.5.11 Appliances designed with continuously burning pila ights are prohibited, 30.8 REQUIREMENTS - UNITS WITH CYLINDER CAPACITY OF MORE THAN EIGHT OUNCES BUT LESS THAN 16.4 OZ 30.6.1 Appliances with a cylinder of more than eight ounces but less than 16.4 oz (465 g) capacity shall not be Stored in the boat interior with the fuel cylinder attached. 30.6.2 Appliances with more than eight ounces but less than 16.4 oz (465 g) of attached cylinder capacity shall not be installed or used in the interior ofthe boat. 30,7 INSTALLATION 30.7.1 Appliances shall be mounted in accordance with manufacturer's instructions that are in compliance with this standard, 308 — SAFETY SIGNS AND LABELS 30.8.1 Safety signs and labels shall comply with ABYC T-5, Safety Signs and Labels, and shall contain at least the following informational elements: 308.11 the hazard intensity signal word, 308.12 the nature ofthe hazar, 30.8.1.3 consequences that can recut ifthe instructions to avoid the hazard are not followed, and 30.8.1.4 instructions on how to avoid the hazard 30.8.2 Externally mounted grills and cooking stoves with greater than eight ounce (227 g) fuel containers shall be provided with a warning label that complies with A-30.8.1, and NOTE: The following is an example of such a label A WARNING ‘Open flame cooking appliances consume oxygen and produce carbon monoxide To avoid asphyxiation or injury or death from exposure to carbon monoxide, ‘maintain open ventilation when using these appliances. Do not use this appliance for comfort heating 308.21 a durable and permanent, legible sign covering the proper operation, including refueling, storage of the Cooking appliance, and spare cylinders, and any unique hazards of the appliance, shall be provided, and 30.822 shall be integral with the appliance, and 308.23 _ shall be visible when operating the appliance. © 2018 American Bost & Yacht Council, Ine 3 30 78 30.8.3 Appliances with fuel containers of eight ounces (227 g) or less intended for use in the interior of the boat shall be provided with a permanent, legible warning label of sign about the hazards related to a fuel buming appliance. 30.8.3.1. This standard was revised in 2001, 2008, and 2013. The 2078 version is the work of the Thermal Appliance Project Technical Commie. ‘ABYC technical board rules provide that all reports, including standards and technical information reports, are advisory only.
