General Education Reflection

I took my three lower-level courses at Kirkwood Community College. I took Econ 101

and ECON 102 because I am doing electrical engineering or in general engineering is physics

and economics. These economics classes would help me in my career to deal with and prepare

me for IE 305 and power economics classes. Also, I plan to do a master's degree in MBA. I took

SP CM 212 because it is essential in the workplace. In general, it helped me improved my oral

communication skills.

I took LD ST 322 leadership class to meet the U.S. diversity requirement and to help me

improve my leadership skills that important for the engineering industry. Leading or supervising

teams at work needs leadership skills, particularly in diverse countries like the U.S. I will take

EE 355 in fall 2020 because it is class related to economic where I plan to focus after graduation

and to meet the international perspective requirement.

I took my courses to help me develop my engineering skills and knowledge in the

university and later on as an engineer in my career. All those courses relate to what I need to

focus on to improve some of my skills. Economics is really important in my perspective for

engineering or someone like to be in management levels later on, so all these economics classes I

took caught my attention to what I should focus on in electrical engineering as minors.

Technical communication and writing are more important for engineering, so oral

communication course improves my ability to be an engaged and proactive student for better

networking. It also encouraged me to become more initiative, which may help a lot in my career.

Also, general education courses are useful to prepare students to meet career requirements and to

highlight the areas that students needed to develop it, whether technical or behavior. Also, it

helps in identifying the educational areas that match student capability and interests. The

competencies are talent as are acquired by engagement and training. So, the more time student

put in improving their competencies, the more they make their education worth. Engineering as

technical knowledge fits a small percentage of the employment requirements.
