One Pager Instructions

A one-pager is a single-page response to your reading that shows an


understanding of what you read. It is a way to be creative and
experimental. It is a way to respond imaginatively and honestly. The
purpose of a one-pager is to own what you are reading.

1. All work must be done on one side of the paper. Put your name on the back.
2. The title of the novel and author must be clearly displayed. Be creative!
3. Include a creative border or design that reflects the chapters read in general or
theme. This can include words, pictures/designs, symbols, or quotes from the
text.
4. List 2 strong adjectives that describe the mood in chapters 1-8. Then include a
sentence or two explaining why the words describe the mood.
5. Investigate 2-3 new words you learned in chapters 1-8 and provide the
definitions.
6. Include 1 important quote from the novel
● Write the quote in quotation marks
● Include the page number
● Next to the quotation, explain why this is significant. (This quotation
expresses…)
7. Include a picture that represents the novel. This picture can be an object or
person from the story. You can cut it out, draw it, computer generate it -
anything!
8. Write 2 personal statements or connections about what you’ve read. EX: “I could
relate to the main character feeling lost in the book because it reminded me of
when I got to high school and didn’t know anyone.”
9. Find 2 examples of figurative language (simile, metaphor, hyperbole,
personification, etc.) that are important to the novel and briefly explain each one.
● You must fill the entire page.
● Writing must be in ink, marker, or colored pencil.
● Label each section - mood, adjectives, etc.
● Draw a line through each instruction that you complete.
● Neatness and spelling count.
● Think outside the box!!
