Jocelynang Baliuag was the most popular kundiman in the 1890’s among Tagalog
revolutionaries fighting Spanish colonial rule. It was known as the Kundiman of the
Revolution.
A patriotic song in the guise of a hymn of courtship, “Jocelynang Baliwag” was officially
known as “Musica de Legitimo Kundiman Proceddente del Campo Insurecto” (Music of
the Legitimate Kundiman that Proceeds from the Insurgents’ Camp). It was composed
in the year 1898 in the town of Baliwag of the province of Bulacan, Philippines.
